Hello everyone!
In another topic I posted that I had found a way to continue making stack castles without having to resort to buying them from ebay!
It is very simple, and though they may not be the prettiest castles, they will keep your klickies safe and secure...
(until geobra rereleases steck! :prays:)
All you need is for DS to have the peices in stock (which unfourtunatly might take a long time... :(... but hopefully will be worth the wait!)
This is how you do it:
The pirate dungeon is still made from steck and available!!!
You could buy the whole dungeon and fet lots of skeletons and extra bits and bobs.... or order the individual peices from DS.
You could buy these peices for an outside wall...

These for an inner wall...
Connect them...
Fancify them...
Top them off...
Connect the inner and outer walls with these...
And every couple feet or so put one of these in instead of an inner wall...
They also have the corner pieces...

I hope that everyone has found this useful...
I also would like to give a big THANK YOU to PlaymoDB for the wonderful pictures and part numbers!

Great idea, but I have two questions, WoT ...
Have you been able to get these parts from DS?
And ...
Is it less expensive to order from DS than to buy on eBay? If so, what's the price difference?
Finally ... a comment.
The following Steck sets are available from Playmobil USA:
(They also have lots of parts that can be ordered from DS!)

I have not checked the prices...
So maybe it is less expencive or maybe not. :-\
I have not tried to order them from DS as I have been very preocupied with getting more Romans.
So I guess my idea is more of a theory then a working method... :P
I will try them today and see what happens when I ask for those pieces.

Steck parts can be picked up easily and fairly cheaply on UK ebay, but I suppose it depends on where you are int the world, and how much demand there is for it ;)
-
Steck sets can get pretty expensive in the US...
I saw an old steck castle going for $30 or $40 on ebay,
I was deciding whether or not it was worth buying it when it was bought right out from under my nose!
I looked for another of thise sets but they were all 80$ or MORE! :(
So I ended up having to buy one for twice the amount I could have...
-
Ebay can be cheaper sometimes, but with sellers charging such high shipping & handling costs to help their bottom profit line, I don't see much of an advantage! Then there is a problem with used parts being discolored a majority of the time, having that greenish tint !
-
Your outer wall would be rather open to attack WOT, and you haven't got a big enough gateway for a horseback rider or a cart.
I think you could extend an existing castle using these parts through DS, but there it would be cheaper to get a whole Steck castle on eBay to start with.

Hello
Well doesn't the medieval house with barn come with the flat solid walls and a straight connector ? You brought up an interesting thought ? what type of castle could you build with only DS ?
Like Martin pointed out, it will have a small entrance.
If I am not mistaken with the new themes that are coming out and their design it looks to be some of stecks last stands

Hi Richard
I think the Red house is still available and on sale in the US.
The Blue one is still in Germany so why not here?

You're correct, Ras !
The Red Timbered Steck House is currently "out of stock", so I didn't include it. However, after I made my post, I checked and the Steck Barn with House is also currently "out of stock" ... Unfortunately, I think that as you suggested, we soon may be totally "out of Steck" ... >:(
All the best,
Richard

I've put notifies on both those as I'd like to get at least a couple of each. They haven't put them on the discontinued list, so I have hope new stocks will arrive eventually, but it could be months away.
I wonder if Playmo take notice of "notify" requestes, and if enough people in the US do this it might prompt a reorder?

Believe it or not, Martin (you could have knocked me over with a feather), PlaymobilUSA really did notify me when the 7450 Float Plane became available. (I ordered two!)

How is the outer wall open to an attack? Except for the little window at the top.
I have not put in what I would use as a gateway,
probably the big door on the Medieval House with Barn as it is available and a horse or cart could fit under it.

The little window at the top is the weakness. :)

Geobra has really been bad about that, Martin! I always hated the "windows" in the Playmobil western log palisade fort. (They probably intended for the "openings" to be rifle ports. Unfortunately, they're just as convenient for those outside the fort as for those who are inside the fort.)
Perhaps it's important to remember that Playmobil is a toy and it doesn't always have to make sense (even though it probably should).
All the best,
Richard

I thought the windows were too high,
I had worried about that...
I don't mind the little window at the top to much,
seeing as how I can't see how it would help the enemy. (Unless they were super tall klickies! :o)
Thanks for the waarning though... would putting the grate over it help? ???

A grating would definitely stop people just climbing through the hole using a ladder, or getting a bunk up from a fellow attacker, but a big hole like that is a weakness in the wall that's going to attract siege engine missiles like honey attracts wasps, and even a grating would get smashed out quickly by a trebuchet strike. Even arrow slits are a weakness and wouldn't usually appear on the lowest wall sections.
-
I didn't realise how large those holes were! :o
I will deffinatly get a grate, but I can see the dilema with the seige engines... :-\
I'll just have to burn all of their ladders before they reach the walls!
(Im going to add that to the burning arrow tecnique in my set of melee combat rules... How to burn seige engines... ;D)
Thanks again for the warning and advice! :wow:
Thou art the master of klicky castles!
