Hi All,
My intrest was awakened again on the Playmobil classic biplane, when
Richard bumped the old biplane thread.
I have always wanted to customize a triplane version of that neat little
plane, but couldn't obtain a few extra to cut up.
Soooo...I thought I would make a similar plywood copy of the biplane fuselage and wings and have a go at a triplane. The fuselage is the same length and style, but is a
bit thicker at the wing root. The flight compartment is for a single seat, and I removed the luggage compartment.
I thought I'd do an in progress how to just for fun.
Here goes....

Beautifully done Jimbo!! :wow: Thank you for the 'work in progress' photos it is always nice to see how things fit together, looks like your planes are ready to go hunt for submarines! Thanks again.

WOW :o! I can't wait to see the finished project :)9! It looks so natural, just like PM produced it :yup:! EXCELLENT :woohoo:!
-
That plane you are making looks very good so far . Thanks for showing us the step by step process on your adventurous project.
A little gas engine in there and you and Richard could put on a dog fight show for us :P

Thanks Gepetto, Richard, and Bill for the encouraging comments. :yup:
Red? Do triplanes come in any other color? ;D
I'm still "up in the air" on the pilot....got an idea though.
The glue is drying as we speak.
Thanks again,
Jimbo
-
Thanks, Rasputin, for the nice reply.
I can't wait to get it finished. I will try to make it air show worthy :yup:
Best regards,
Jimbo

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the encouragement!
I am still pondering the propper pilot..I will try to have it ready for test flight in
about a month. I sprayed the first coat of sealer/primer on yesterday.
I saw some real interesting paint schemes on a website today. Fear and common
sense may keep me with the red overall coloring though. ;D
Stay tuned

This is an amazing custom, Jimbo, and looks really superb. Fancy, wooden Playmobil.
(Sorry not to have commented sooner but the thread started when I was away and off the net and when it restarted I assumed that I'd already posted.)

Pretty incredible stuff! Great model building skills! :wow: :wow:

Hmmm ... ^-^ ...
I'm tempted to make a comment about the Australian accent, Gordon.
However, better that Sylvia only sees one of us poking fun at her countrymen ... 0)

Hello, Jimbo ...
Still staying "tuned" ...
It's been about a month, Jimbo ... Any word on your first test flight?
Don't want to "needle" you, as we all know that your beautiful customs take time.
But, how about an update?
Look forward to reading about your progress.
All the best,
Richard (aka Mr. Impatient)

Dear Mr. Impatient ;D
I had a feeling a couple of days ago that the launch date was near. Thanks for the nudge. :)
I just finished the propeller...(0626 AZ time)
I will apply a coat of "prop wash" on it, and it will be ready to install.
The flying weather here has been real yucky...
Looks like blue skies today though, so if the camera works I will take a picture.
I need to round up Knightmo to help me post it though...I am still a bit
computer challenged.
Best regards,
Jimbo
-
Hi all.
Quick update..Pictures are taken and Knightmo can help me in a couple of
days to post 'em.
I borrowed a pilot from a Plymobil Curtis float plane I made in '92....he was a bit dusty ;D
Best regards,
Jimbo

I don't know how.... ???
I don't even know how to get them from the camera to the computer...

I don't even know how to get them from the camera to the computer...
Hello, Jim ...
I'm a lot older than you. So, if I can do it ... you can do it.
First question ... are your photos in a digital camera?
(If your camera doesn't have a roll of film that you have to leave at the corner drugstore to get developed, then you probably have a digital camera.)
If you answered "yes" to the first question, then go to the second question.
Second question ... do you know where the cable is to plug into your Camera?
(You might have two cables. One to charge the Camera's battery and one to connect the Camera to your Computer. You will probably only have the one to connect to the Computer.)
Please look at the first attachment to see what most Camera to Computer cables look like.
Third question ... do you know where your USB port(s) are on your Computer?
(If you don't know what a USB port is ... see attachment)
The second attachment shows the USB ports on the computer and the USB Cable Connector.
IMPORTANT: be sure that the USB Connector and the USB Port line up properly when you connect the two. They should slip together fairly easily. You shouldn't have to push real hard or force the connection.
Fourth question ... do you know where the Camera to Computer connection port is on your Camera? (If you don't know where it is or what it looks like, please look at the third attachment.)
Fifth question ... is your Computer on or off?
Please turn your computer OFF!
Sixth question ... is your Camera on or off?
Please turn you camer OFF!
Connect the cable between the Camera and the Computer.
Turn your Camera ON. There are TWO settings. There's one to TAKE pictures and one to VIEW pictures that you've already taken. Set your Camera to VIEW!
Turn your Computer ON.
The Computer should automatically download ALL your pictures to a photo program on your computer. If it doesn't, then you probably need to install some proprietary software that came on a disk with your Camera. ADVICE ... Call Jimmy and ask him why he didn't already install it for you ...
Good luck, Jim, and have fun ... ;D
Richard
-
Thanks for the clear instructions, Richard!
I will try today after work. Jimmy does
have it all set up to put pics. in a Playmo
album on our home computer.
Thanks again,
Jimbo
-
Hi Jimmy,
Don't worry, we'll get you up & running with this picture project :)9!
Bill

I will try today after work.
Work? WORK? ... :(o):
Are you really still working, Jimbo?
This is the time of life to be "playing" with your Playmo ... ;D
However, I must admit that Susan still expects me to work from time to time ... :-[
All the best,
Richard
-
Are you really still working, Jimbo?
Yup, I have a cool job..(maintenance and groundskeeping)...at the church & school
where my wife teaches. Not as stressfull as airline work .
I just printed your handy-dandy instructions...Thanks Richard and Bill for the encouragement!
O.K....step 1....
Jimbo

Yup, I have a cool job...
"Cool jobs" are good jobs! ...
Good luck on downloading your photos ... :woohoo:
-
Hi again....
Your directions were perfect ;D....I guess our computer is not :hissyfit:...
called Jimmy, he said he couldn't remember how he worked around
the problem last time...it was a downloading thing 8}...will ask wife if
she can fix it when she gets home.....may take computer to the lake
and see if it floats!
Rats I say!
Jimbo
-
Do you have a "Windows" computer or a Macintosh?
If you have a Mac, Jimbo, I can help you to "work around" a problem.
All the best,
Richard
-
It may be that your computer doesnt download pictures that way... I know my computer doesn't.
Good luck getting your computer to download the pictures Jimbo!!!
I can't wait to see your completed triplane.
-
Do you have a "Windows" computer or a Macintosh
Goodmorning y'all.
We have a "Windows" computer, Richard,.....but my wife said she downloaded all
the pictures last night ;D...now Jimmy needs to "size?" them. So, this evening,
:prays: we may have some pictures!
Maybe next time I should just send you the whole airplane ;D
Best regards,
Jimbo

OK! ...
-
Hi all...Jimmy came by and got things moving :yippee: The pictures should be
self explanatory. The background is a picture of an old hangar my boss found
on his computer.....The last picture is the Curtis floatplane that provided the
pilot.
Sorry it took so long. I actually learned something about computer stuff :)
Enjoy
Best regards,
Jimbo
