Title: OMG !!!
Post by: Richard on August 30, 2009, 14:36:08

NEWS

This past weekend (August 22nd to 23rd), the annual LuxPlamoDays was held in Luxembourg.

Did any of our Playmofriends members attend?

The following article is from The Luxembourg News:

“LuxPlaymoDays”

If you are interested in seeing the annual get-together of thousands of little Playmobil characters, do not miss the “LuxPlaymoDays” this weekend. (22-23 August 2009)

The 4th edition of the “LuxPlaymoDays” will take place this weekend in the Sport's Hall and the town hall in Clemency. The event lasts 2 days and the exhibition is open on Saturday from 2pm until 6pm and all day Sunday from 9am until 6pm.

On Friday 21st of August, about a hundred collectors from Luxembourg, Belgium, France and Germany get together to prepare the event that is displayed over 1,000 square metres in total. Half of the surface is devoted to the exhibition itself and the other half is for the 25 stalls that sell all sorts of Playmobil related items. Visitors can find collection characters, random assortments of Playmobils or second-hand boxes.

The stages are between 1 and 50 square metres and cover various themes. This year, there are various themes ranging from Indians, The Last Unicorn or African Scenery to The Austerlitz Battle among many others. All these panoramas become alive thanks to the collectors' creativity and their own equipment.

This year's edition is special since the event will be welcoming 2 authors: Axel Hennel, who wrote the “Playmobil Collector 1974-2009”, a catalogue about the whole Playmobil collection and Richard Unglik, who wrote “La grande aventure de l'histoire avec Playmobil” (The big adventure of stories with Playmobil and “Playmobil la grande aventure des animaux” (Playmobil the big animal's adventure).

The idea of “LuxPlaymoDays” emerged in Spring 2006 when three couples got together with the project of creating a big meeting of all Playmobil collectors in Luxembourg. Thanks to the interest and motivation of fellow collectors, the first “LuxPlaymoDays” took place in October 2006.

The success was so great that in February 2007, they created an organisation “Playmo-Frënn Lëtzebuerg asbl” to organise more Playmobil events.

(OMG !!!) ;D

It reminds me of one battle scene I saw a while ago, in Garden Wargaming, in which the tailor died in the crowd ...

But in that scene, there was a HUGE castle, very well conceived.

There's a link from a thread about "can we do art with playmobil?", or something like, it must be from the middle of 2008.)

These incredibly talented and knowledgeable "Playmo Friends" have re-created one of History's most famous battle down to its smallest details  :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:...

For those interested in History, here is some information about what remained as Napoleon Bonaparte's most glorious victory of his reign...Austerlitz Battle :

Austerlitz

2 December, 1805

Austerlitz Battle Ground

Austerlitz: The Rise of the Eagle   - the first chapter of the Napoleonic Wars

(http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2723/austerlitz1.jpg) (http://img141.imageshack.us/i/austerlitz1.jpg/)

Regarded as Napoleon Bonaparte's greatest victory, Austerlitz was a sublime trap that destroyed the armies of his enemies Russia and Austria.

Tricking his opponents into thinking he was weaker than he actually was, and then calling in nearby reinforcements, Bonaparte initially met the combined Allied army of 85,000 men and 278 guns with just 66,000 men.

The French emperor deliberately abandoned a strong central position on the Pratzen Heights and left his right flank weak.

The Allies eagerly moved forward to occupy the heights and then weakened the centre to crush the French right.

As the bulk of Austrian and Russian troops attacked, Marshal Davout's III Corp arrived to bolster the French line.

With more and more Allied troops sucked into the attack, Bonaparte launched an assault that took back the Pratzen Heights and split the enemy.

After much hard fighting the French crushed the Allies. Thousands of fleeing troops drowned when a frozen lake split under the weight of men and guns.

French losses amounted to 8000 while the Russian and Austrian emperors, present at the battle, saw more than 27,000 men killed, wounded and captured. Bonaparte also captured 180 cannon.

Austerlitz today at peace...

(http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/5227/austerlitz6.jpg) (http://img42.imageshack.us/i/austerlitz6.jpg/)

A little anecdote   : when asked about the outstanding triumphes and ambitions of her Son Napoleon Bonaparte, Laetizia   his Mother, an old fashioned Corsican Lady would simply reply in a sigh: "Pourvu que ca dure" or "For as long as it last..." and she was right as Waterloo's desastrous battle was yet to come...

Hello Playmofriends

Those who cannot wait to see the magnificent dioramas of the LuxPlaymoDays 2009   can do so on the amazing website of MacGayver who as always, has listed and photographed - and what beautiful pictures these are - all the dioramas of the convention...

For those who are not familiar with MacGayver, he is - with his "Team" - responsible for some of the most audacious customs ever attempted on Playmos and the Creator of some of the most breathtaking dioramas :

A deep bow for Michael and his Team  :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Here is an appetizer in pictures of the 2009 LuxPlaymoDays   with the permission of Klickywelt.de   - I have selected the last picture especially for Bill ...

Hotel Anubis with its swimming pool overlooking the Pyramid is certainly inspired by the Oberoi in Cairo.

My personal favorites are the golden unicorns swimming in the foam - magical in their simplicity - and the amazing African Wild Animals Dioramas which is simply breathtaking  :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:.

This is Art for as much as I can see as all these Individuals have put so much thought, preparation and care in these dioramas...

I once said to Tricornejock how much I admired his work and his response was truly humble and honest. MacGayver and Him - and certainly others that I have yet to discover - are "Magicians" in their own rights.

Lucky were those presents at the 2009 LuxPlaymoDays !!!

Hello Michael

How nice to see you around here  :)!!!

How was the experience of LuxPlaymoDays please ?

Could you possibly tell us about the atmosphere, the preparation, the people there ?

Am I mistaking or your brought your 80 days around the world diorama there as I think I recognized some of your oriental temples  :yup:?

As I have never been to a Playmo Exhibition or Convention - and I am not alone from what I heard from other PF Members - I'd love to know more about it....

For those like myself and Emma who are very much into the Victorian Theme, the park fence is one of the most expensive item to get nowadays as it reaches silly prices on Ebay - up to 250.00 pounds...

I just could not resist making you weep looking at the number of fences included in this diorama shown at the 2009 Wolfsburg Convention...

As Karim says the cost of some of these items is just way beyond me, and not just the fence. I knew there was a reason to collect lots of palaces the hotel is super.
