Title: NEW ASIAN LEGS
Post by: Richard on May 24, 2008, 20:20:15

These two photos were posted at GW-PC by Cheng (http://gardenwargaming.playclicks.com/forum/index.php?topic=1144.msg9335#msg9335).

He said that they were "new Asian legs" ... ???

Does anyone know where they came from?

Is this possibly a sneak preview of the new Asian theme?

Is it possible this is something Cheng customised, using regular red trousers with white shoes and adding the black paint?

I can't see why he'd post legs only and not the rest of the figure.

I'd be surprised if paint were involved as cheng always works on having a custom which can be restored to the original state and so doesn't paint.  Also, I believe it would run against his personal ethics to deceive anyone in this way.

I didn't know about Cheng's "revert" policy, but I wasn't suggesting he was trying to decieve anyone. It just seems odd to post legs without the rest of the figure, if it's part of a new figure.

I wasn't suggesting you were, Martin as I know that's not like you.  I had some difficulty trying to put in words what I wanted to say, knowing cheng well through the internet and trades, and the end result wasn't as well put as it meant have been on another day.

Hello, Martin and Gordon ...

Would you two guys just give each other a big hug  and then please help me figure out where the heck these Asian legs came from?

You seem to know Cheng quite well, Gordon. However, I think that he may be thoroughly enjoying having something that he knows will drive us all crazy until we find out where it came from ...  8}

All the best,
Richard

Hello, Richard!

Of course it didn't come from any known Asian sets (3 sets in Special, 1 in Pirates, 2 in Modern Life ...), even so I went to check it up, and this is it all right:

Mandarin figure (http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/4539.jpg)
Ninja (http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/4554.jpg)
Karate practitioner (http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/4532.jpg)
Pirate crew (http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/3794.jpg) (Chinese pirate: barefeet)
Airport Bus-stop (http://www.collectobil.com/images/items/3171.jpg)
and Asian family attached below ... Forget the attachment; sometimes it simply doesn't go; anyway, the shoes of all Modern Life Asian figures are "normal" Western shoes. There's picture of this set (7982) easily available at Playmobil UK.

I can't figure out any red legs with white shoes ... It isn't in the Circus sets in Collectobil, but there's a number of things we don't find in Collectobil ... Maybe in PlaymoDB you will find something? (I'm not very familiarized with the use of the db, but it's huge, I figured out :) )

I have to admit that it passed through my mind the thought that it was painted, but then I was puzzled too about how such a thing would deceive Cheng, and I have no answer to it, unless asking him where he got the legs :hmm: ...

Until then, mystery remains!

Hello, Gus ...

I'm hoping that Cheng will solve this mystery very soon.
Hopefully, before it drives some of us even more nuts than we already are ...   8}

All the best,
Richard

The burden of proof is on Cheng!  That joker!

But, seriously, when I read the caption "new Asian legs", images of Gong Li came to mind, and I guess I got what I deserved.    ??? ??? ???

Those look more painted than the first ones, now we have a closer zoom.

The legs were originally all black, an the white and red have been painted on.

You can see a red mark on the second pair in that has gone slightly over the line intended.

Just to be clear, I'm not accusing Cheng of trying to deceive anyone, as he never said these were official Playmobil legs.

Well, the streaks of gray don't quite do her the same justice that they did Jane Seymour.

But, the fact she isn't dyeing it--that's Gong Li!  The Marilyn Monroe of China!

I definitely think they've been painted too. :yup:

I was uncertain about this when I saw the first pics, but the larger view enables us to make a comparison between several figures. I can now see some very small differences on the cuffs and sandals that would not be present on factory-printed klickies. :)

It's very neat work, but then I would expect nothing less from a talented customizer such as Cheng. 8-)

OK, Sylvia ...  :wow:

It's time to share Cheng's latest post at GW-PC ...

Sorry my dear friends...

i don't log in on weekends as you may have noticed after so many years
  ;D
... honestly, i was going to post more pictures today (I sprayed another 4 over the weekend with an even more versatile color combination) but my daughter still hasnt charged her new cam till last night..

... BUT i better clear the air before someone goes troppo
(and i should have typed "My Asian legs"...all my Asians run on western legs
:D )

...free hand painting is against my own rules, but i do spray on smaller areas (like shoes many times in the past)...our dear Gordon quite rightfully mentioned that i allow myself to make only reversible customs (so when i spray small areas, i console myself saying that they can be easily wiped off :P ).

... i just masked and sprayed black&white over a pair of red legs and i think i managed to improve my next 4 to attain my own 'factory-finished' standard :)

... its a long wait for 2009 and there might not be anything like this..if at all Asian  :-\

... so with these Asian legs now, i don't have to wait (of course I'm praying they'll come out with those Japanese sandals which are quite cumbersome to spray (on bare feet sprayed white for the 'socks')  ;D

As for the torsos ... well, that is the easier part ... so many possibilities now ... so, Geobra ... if you're watching ... please understand that this is just a stop-gap measure ... we still need your mass produced and differently moulded Asian legs  :D

Last but not least, my dear Richard, my apologies to our friends in Playmofriends ... i didn't know about it until this Monday morning ... sorry for the disappointment ... I know of no new legs from GB ... we would expect such revelations from the playmowelt members first  :-[

So, there you are my friends. Mystery solved. Except for ... What's Cheng now going to do with the legs?

To be continued ...

All the best,
Richard

Ouch, here's a pair of Asian legs (see attachment) attached to Gong Li's sister.

The set she comes with includes her brother, niece, and nephew.

Here's the latest from Cheng!

Thanks guys!
And, sorry for the wait...

Here are some Asian torsos on my Asian legs ...
;D

(It's magnified as usual ... you can imagine when its really much tinier on our shelves and mine are far and not directly under my warm yellow ceiling lighting ... so they ARE factory-finished in my eyes   ;)

Everybody knows what Cheng means by Boxers?

(I assume: the 19th century Chinese secret society that exploded into a full-scale peasant revolt in the 1890s against foreigners in northern China)
