I have recently discovered Faller's E-Train. They are very adaptable to Playmobil. The trains are much smaller than Playmobil's but the figures fit nicely with them. Unfortunately they stopped making them in 1986 (I think?) so they are hard to come by. I have a gallery with a small Faller train running with some Playmobil parts.
http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/album/thumbnails.php?album=52
There are a bunch of sets that go with E-train (Playland, Autoland, Playtrain). I'm sure some of you are familiar with them. Here's a good link if you want to see more,
http://www.xn--gunnar-grbel-djb.de/html/faller/ueber.html
It's in German but translates nicely through yahoo. There are alot of great pics that show equipment that was available and stuff that's been customized.

Hello, Steve ...
GREAT PHOTOS !!!
Thanks for sharing your Faller E-Train with us! (And, thanks for the link! I never can find our Gallery) ... ;)
It's been a long time since I've actually seen one ... Do they run on O Gauge tracks? Are the tracks the same as the ones used for Lionel? I really like that Denver and Rio Grande train!
I bought Faller's Autoland a long time ago thinking that I could use it with Playmobil. I still have it up at our summer house. I'll need to look for it when we get back to Canada.
see attachment
Thanks again, Steve.
All the best,
Richard
Edit: forgot the word "at" ...
-
Thanks for the compliment Richard. The pictures became darker as I lost my evening light...The E-train sets are DC and run on 2-rail O scale track. I don't have any of this so I converted the 3-Rail track that I had by isolating one of the outside rails on each section.
I found out that the D&RG set was available through Walthers in the 80's. It's basically a repaint of some of Faller's other sets. They show up on Ebay from time to time.
Your lucky to have the Autoland sets! They are hard to find. So far I have managed to locate the depot and nothing else. The buildings are a bit small for klickies but the trains could be used with a Playmobil setup. All of the sets come unassembled on sprues like a model kit! They seem like proto-versions of early Playmobil. It's too bad Faller stopped production. I'd love to see what you have if you ever dig your sets up. I'll post some more pics if I find anything else.
-
As soon as we get our schedule set for when we're going to return to Vancouver Island, I'll let you know. I've got lots of train stuff that you might enjoy seeing.

Hello Andi,
Thanks for the link. I actually have that site bookmarked already. I love the catalog scans! They're invaluable for identifying sets. It's too bad these toys are so hard to find in the U.S. I notice there is quite a bit available through the EBAY.de website.
As for the tracks...well, I was improvising. I've recently spent a large pile of cash on LGB track so I didn't have any budget for 2 rail O Scale. I ended up modifying some decrepit 3 rail track from MARX. It actually works great. I'm not sure how I would do the switches. That's another project I guess.

Here was one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180310304500&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:PIC&ih=008) i saw . It looks like it must have been a battery powered one .
-
Hi Rasputin. Thanks for the link. I was actually watching that one on ebay already. PlayTrain was battery powered. The locos are the same as e-train, just with a battery box instead of a motor. I have been seeing a small amount of e-train stuff pop up on Ebay lately. PlayTrain seems to be harder to find.
This is the US Ebay site I'm referring to. I have found lots of great e-train auctions on the German Ebay site...
I've managed to get a hold of a good amount of e-train equipment. I have enough track for a small layout now. I'm thinking about setting something up in the Spring after the Christmas layout comes down.
-
It sounds like you keep an eye out for them . Was $60 a decent price for a new set like that ?
-
I have been on the lookout lately...and I do think that was a pretty good price. I forgot about the auction end time so missed the final battle for it. I would have gone a bit higher.
My favorite piece so far has been the red E-train railbus. I have managed to find two of them (with boxes) and they are really fun to watch and play with. Here's a link that shows some of the equipmnt. The railbus is 3827, 3838 is unpowered.

Your welcome Richard! They really are fun to run and play with...I've been so busy getting ready for an upcoming train show I haven't been online very much. Sorry for the dealy. It's amazing how much work is involved to show a train layout.
To stay on topic: after the holidays are over I am planning on setting up a Faller layout with Playmobil people and buildings. It will be approximately 11' x 4'. It depends on how much track I can rustle up. It's fairly hard to find. I've managed to collect a pile. We'll see what happens. I'll get some pics uploaded when the project starts.

Check this out! Found it on a Belgian auction site. It is already reserved for somebody else. But if that guy doesn't show up. It is mine! Only 18 euros :o.
-
Very nice, It looks in good condition and it has the box . Hope he never shows up for your sake ;)
-
Very nice indeed. Hope you get it.
-
WOW :wow:! It's my first time seeing this item before! Good luck! BTW do we need to make a visit to the other person for you >:D? Just kidding , but I do hope you get it :yup:!
-
Here's hoping :crossed:(for you). Good luck.

Awesome! I've had my eye on that one...hmmm what's your address >:D Just kidding! I hope you get it.
They are hard to find. I have two red ones that are e-train. I love 'em. I'd like to see what you do with yours (if get it). Here's a pic of what I'm currently running.
Do you have other Faller trains?
-
It does look good indeed!! i will look out for one or two myself.
It looks like a tram of somekind.
Gloobey, do you have more pictures of your layout?
I'm thinking of making a city for me, i mean my son of course and i need some inspiration.
The walkway is a very nice idea.

Hello, I'm putting the finishing touches on this scene/layout so I'll be taking pics very soon. I'll post a reply to this thread when I get some taken. You let your son touch your Playmobil!!!!

A very impressive layout, and the E-Train fits in very nicely, though there seems to be a health and safety issue with the door on the second carriage.

I don't have any Faller trains yet -> It is actually your fault for showing that catalog picture, that I want these railbusses.
In Belgium in the past you had the regular railways and the smalltrack railways called the "neighborhood railways". These were originaly operated with steamtrams and later on with diesel and electric trams. From that vast network nothing remains all lines have been replaced by busses in the fifties and sixties .Only in the city of charleroi and in the coastal area of belgium have these lines been maintained. (The city of antwerp, ghent and bruxelles also have trams but these are diffferent companies).
With the faller trains I want to mimmick this situation, faller trains for the small track and lgb for the regular railways.
If your interested in the small track railway you should go to this site:
http://asvi.tram-way.be/index/index.htm. These guys maintain and operate a small part of an old line. the even built new rails and bridges!
-
Thank you for that link HC! Great photos of those old commuter trains.

Thanks Playmofire! The door was malfunctioning. Definitely a safety hazard. It's been repaired, inspected and is now back in service. I'm glad you pointed that out before some poor klicky fell to their death.

Oops! Sorry about that. I discovered e-trains two years ago and realized how well they would work with Playmobil. If you like the Faller toys you should also be on the lookout for Autoland and Playland sets (both from Faller). They work together as a system with the E-train / Playtrain sets.
They have been extremely difficult to find. I haven't seen very much outside of the Ebay.de website...

Hi Arab Warrior! I have posted some new pictures as promised. Here's the link to the thread that I've started:

I'd like to see what you come up with too :)

Very nice. I like the greenery hanging from the railing too. I was wondering what type of switch mechanism that is in the foreground of the picture. It looks like an LGB switch, but I've never seen a manual switch mechanism like that before.
-
Hello gloobey it is the LGB 12010 EPL Switch Drive
-
Hi Pingo, I'm familiar with the 12010 switch drive, I think this might be something else. I don't see any electrical contact points (white and orange circles) and there is an arrow printed on the top of HighlandCattle's part. I was wondering if it was some very old LGB part, or perhaps from another manufacturer.
-
Ooops posted my picture in the wrong thread.
They are actually very old LGB handswitches I'll post a comparison picture tomorrow. I got them in a lot with the 4001 train. Which was from the late seventies
-
I didn't get the playtrain :sadklicky:. But on the other hand, Yesterday I was in one of those triftstores and got a half complete trainstation 4300.It was only 7,75 euro and was taped together with some horrible plastic castle. The polish lady at the register could not comprehend that I wanted to leave behind the plastic castle and only take the 4300's parts with me:"But you have paid for it!!".
Here is are the comparison pictures of the switches. On the black box of the old switch it says "1208 LGB ELECTRIC" but I opened it up and there were no electric connectors on the inside.
-
Thanks for posting the pic. It does look like an electric switch drive, but without the wire connections. The great thing about LGB parts is that they last forever.

Wow! What great luck. Congratulations on a good find. I'v enever come across anything like that in a thrift store. You never know what you'll find.
-
I have uploaded a few more pics. I am currently running a Faller goods train with the bell wagon at the end. The bell wagon has a spring trigger that hits track contacts. The trigger hits a metal bell inside the covered gondola. I was able to find this car with the track contacts and it's original box. It's really fun to play with!

I know some of you are into faller so here is an auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/PLAYMOBIL-FALLER-3200-AUTOLAND-SET-W-JEEP-NIB_W0QQitemZ300301307275QQihZ020QQcategoryZ2575QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) to watch
-
Thanks Rasputin! Looks like I missed out on that one. The autoland sets are really great.
-
Wow finally got one two years after I first craved for one!
Also got a faller house. Really curious about all of this

Congratulations, HC!
That intercity bus is a real beauty !!!
The house is also cool. I would love to see it beside Playmobil's 4207. Wonder if they are both about the same size?
-
Well I don't have the 4207 house, but I can compair to a regular steck house.
-

Hmmm ... I do not have the 4207 house either, HC. Maybe someone here has both a steck house and the 4207 house. Maybe they would be kind enough to compare their steck house to their 4207 house. Then, you can compare your Faller house to your steck house and voila ... we would have an idea if the Faller house is about the same size as the 4207 house.
-
:lol:sounds like a solid plan.

 sounds like a solid plan.
Unfortunately, this "solid plan" will only work if there is a Playmofriend with a 4207 house and a steck house who is also curious ...

The LGB 12010 [KLICK for pic!] (https://www.sc99-shop.de/shop/index.php?&&configNo=4&redirectFileName=site/prodLink.htm&page=482¶m0=productNo=L12010-lgb&dbc=0b4f8545c62ca0ded3e98b0d232254df) or Piko 35271 [KLICK for pic!] (http://www.piko-shop.de/index.php?vw_type=artikel&vw_id=4450)(both electric switch drives) can be added instead (change) of a hand switch drive.
You need also a switch control box (e.g. LGB 51750 [KLICK for pic!] (https://www.sc99-shop.de/shop/index.php?&configNo=4&redirectFileName=site/prodLink.htm&page=482¶m0=productNo=L51750-lgb¶m1=open_woher=4897228¶m2=resetMenu=1&dbc=e0f0fe4de1d3d7ca9151f95b6504edbc) or Piko 35260 [KLICK for pic!] (http://www.piko-shop.de/index.php?vw_type=artikel&vw_id=10525)) to control the switches (here: 4 of them).
Hand switch drives could be the older one (big as the electric, don't mix them up) or the newer one (half size).
Here you can read a manual to the switches (it's also in english) [KLICK and see!] (http://www.champex-linden.de/lgb_produktdatenbank/medien.nsf/medien/B052B4EFC612EBF08525692F005404E8/$FILE/12xxx_Weichen_112003.pdf).
