Hi all!!
For all those who do not know of them, that there is a good collection of books, from Osprey Publications, that describe and illustrate in good detail military uniforms and armors ("Men-at-Arms" series), as well as battleships and fortifications ("Fortification" series) from all times, Ancient Greek to Falklands war, as much as I know. There are non-sancti ways to get them for free as pdfs.
You can get a catalog of current titles from
http://www.ospreypublishing.com/

A useful reminder/ new information. I've found them useful in the past.

Hello, Pyrrhus ...
There are non-sancti ways to get them for free as pdfs.
There are some old, out of print titles that I would love to get as PDFs. Do you have a URL?
All the best,
Richard

Thanks for the link Phyrrus. I have quite a few of these, but never though to check for a website for the publisher.
Looks like I'll be learning about the Japanese Samurai armies, and also Qadesh and the Egyptians in 1300BC now!

Richard, you can find them in the eMule (downloadable from www.emule.com), searching for "Osprey". Much on Napoleonic, Union vs. confederates, Medieval, Condottieri, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Chinese and Japanese, all periods. Old and new, 70's to 2000's.
I got some many of them, write me anyone interested (pyrrhus@live.com.ar) if you can't use the eMule.
Also look at:

Osprey books are indeed a great resource! I've got a number of them, although I haven't really tried to customize any klickies based on them. That said, I'm using them as a resource while assembling my Romans and barbarian horde. I'm also in the midst of creating both a Playmobil wooden and a stone legionary fortress based on a couple of their Roman fortification books.

i decide to revive this old pyrrhus' (we miss you  ) thread with a simple and selfish purpose - as i am a strict bnibtod (brand new in box and then oppened and displayed) collector i would like to incentivate customizers to bring themselves to the naval "world". :-[
so i am posting all (i think) osprey's covers related with piratical and napoleonic navies.
i hope this will work. :)
starting with the pirates...

Er? Anything about knights?

Believe me, there are hundreads of these osprey books,
And there are plenty about Knights... ;)
I currently am reading one about French Knights from the years 1000-1300. :)

I'll check on Amazon for these. Books in English are hard to find here. The French just can't speak English...not to mention read it...

These are so bloody expensive for what they are ::)
I bought one of them recently, very very informative, about the Normans. Still, for those kind of prices I'd rather buy more Playmo ;D

I want to customize some union and confederate soldiers. Somebody knows a another good book? I have already downloaded all Osprey books about it. Thanks.
-
They seem very interesting, but there are sooooo many...
I'd love to see the ancient ones and Civil War ones... Not exactly as a great customizing guide, since I usually don't care much about historical accuracy :-[

I've been using these for years, not only for Playmo, but also for re-enactment equipment. :)

Nice little books indeed, to bad the links in the posts don't seem to work anymore.
