Title: Travelling Klicky - variant suggested
Post by: Martin Milner on February 22, 2008, 11:01:00
I have an idea that might be fun, and that anyone can join in anytime.

Rather than having one klicky who is sent round the world, with the risk of going missing and the postage costs and delays, we could design a Custom Klicky from easily available parts (or pick a common current klicky, maybe from the Specials series, but see below*), so that we can create the illusion of travel without the inconvenience and expense.

Then anybody who wants to can photograph their "traveller" in a place of their choosing anytime, and add it to a thread of pictures in this forum.

I'm thinking not merely tourist sites (I can do London sights like Big Ben, Tower Bridge etc.) but mountains, valleys, local parks etc. even a photo of the traveller in front of your house would be interesting to other board members!

Suggestions (or photos) for a suitable traveller welcome.

*My suggestion is the two Klickies from the DS set 7935 Grandparents. They could be a retired couple finally realising their dream of world travel!

hi all
actually, i was thinking about a travelling avatar, i live right by the golden gate bridge and i would be willing to take a tourist photo of your klicky if you always wanted to visit san francisco but after buying so much playmobil didn't have any extra money to spend on a real vacation.

Oh, you mean they are virtually travelling ... kind of "beaming" like in star trek (travelling without actually moving) ...  ;D

Sounds of fun.

Martin,
If I understand this correctly we just buy our own set of Grandparents, take pictures and submit them.  I think this would be a great idea, no waiting on the mail systems to break down or delay our fun.   :P Now I need a camera and figure out how to do all this.

That's it Janice!

I suggest the grandparents (other suggestions welcome) because they're easily available through DS ordering to everyone.

I don't have these figures yet, but if we get more responses who are keen, then I'm ready to put another DS order is anytime!

I really like this idea, Martin. 8-)

It's an easy event for everyone to get involved with and it will be a lot of fun looking at everyone's photos!

You can count me in too.  :yup:

I did not realize that the traveling Klickie was sent around  :-[ I thought it was already done in the fashion Martin is suggesting. In any case I like the idea of being able to have my own set any time any where to photograph. Just to make sure is this the set of grandparents you are thinking of ? 7935

That's the set! I'm putting in an online order  now, so I'll add them to my haul!

As the weather and evening light improves here in London, I hope to have some fun photography session!

cheers, Martin

Definitely fun.  There are plenty of places in Newfoundland that I'm sure the grandparents would love to see.

Well, for pete's sake!  I tried to put in an order for them at Playmobil Canada and they're not available. The "basket" button changed to "Note Product" so I guess they're not _yet_ available. (Neither are the ethnic families.)  I shall have to possess my soul in patience.

I'm putting in a UK order next month, Heather.  Would you like me to try for you?

I'd appreciate that!  Check with me before ordering, in case they come through in the meantime.

Rats, I could've added a extra set to my order yesterday if I'd known Heather!

Anyone else who'd like to join the fun but can't get the figures, post here and we'll try to get a set on the way asap.

When my set arrive (in 10 days or so) I'll start a new thread for the actual photos. I think it should be restricted to just posts with photos included, so we don't have to scroll through comments to see the next installment.

Any suggestions on names for the Grandparents? I have names in mind, but don't want to tip my hand yet - maybe we can gather some suggestions and then run a poll.

Hello Martin

I would also very much like to "join the fun" but I can't get these figures in Denmark as there isn't any DS service department yet :-\ So if it's possible - please order one for me and I shall pay you the costs afterwards.
Many thanks in advance ;)

Heavens, they look entirely too cheerful.  George and Gracie, maybe?

I was going to suggest Ethel and Elmer (American) or Victoria and Albert (English).

Will do LHAAP! Send me your postal address in a private message. I should be placing a new order in March as there are new sets being released in the UK.

I think the names "Fred and Maisie" suit them very well. :)9

I've put in an order for the figures last week. :)

Martin, do we add to the topic you started with our own photos as and when it suits us, or should we make our own separate topics?

I think all in the same topic would be tidier, and show how this feisty couple get about.

Martin,
Would it be OK for Fred and Maisie to have a change of clothes?  It will be awhile before I can buy a set of Grandparents, but meantime I have a couple that look like Fred and Maisie in different clothes.  I  even have my set up ready for a camera...which I am deficient in both camera and talent.  I will have to rely on my adult children to step in and help me out!!  This sounds like such fun, I can't wait to start taking pictures.

A "change of clothes" might also make sense for Fred and Maisie depending upon where they are.

For instance, they might look a bit over dressed here in the Virgin Islands ... ;)

Hello, Jimbo ...

Sounds like fun! :yup:

I agree. It sounds like a lot of fun!

All the best,
