Keep in mind the rickshaw from the Fairies theme, definitely a trend there. If this is going to happen I would be expecting to see some sort of Samurai or Asian figure in the next batch of Specials announced.

When are the next "new" Specials supposed to come out, Tim?

Well the fall ones for 2008 have been seen in the catalogs - the Musketeer and so on - so Spring 2009 would be the next batch. There's usually a new series released in the winter in Germany - that will be the next one to show up in the pre-catalogs, probably around fall time. This year it's the Animal Clinic series that should be out soon, and the year before it was the Dinos. Year before that was the Forest ones - they show a tendency towards animal related sets for this release period for some reason. If I were to guess for an animal related series at that time then maybe an India theme with a full size Asian elephant to go with the new baby elephant - ideally with a howdah, a tiger hunt set, and some other Raja types of things.

Hello, Tim ...

Thanks for the info!

Hmmm ... Playmobil might be able to get away with just changing the ears on their African Elephant ... ;)

However, in the meantime, here are some pictures of Playmobil African elephants that have been pressed into service by an Indian Rajah (or two). These are from the collection of incredible sets created by Playmobil artist Ralf Gemein.

BTW, don't forget ... Ralf uses only original, unpainted and unmodified Playmobil parts as they come from the factory! Which means that ALL of us can make these sets!

The robe legs from the other egyptian combined with the "samurai" top and you practically have a samurai already. In fact, an original parts only samurai is very possible now.

yippee ;D

I agree that the litter bearer--without the Fu Manchu mustache--resembles a Japanese townsfolk.

I'm starting to get the shakes.  After an unruly mob on Playmoboard clamored for ninjas--hundreds, thousands--and I vociferously defended the honor of medieval Japan, I now find myself sandwiched by a war on two fronts.

No Fu Manchu beards!  And no ninjas!
(Samurai appear to have favored clean shaves or long beards in old age.  To my knowledge, prior to 1920s American detective noire, no Asian, living or dead, suffered a Fu Manch mustache!!!!

-Tim

[If humorous intent isn't self-evident in this email, let it be so made clear.  But seriously, if PM makes a another Japanese ninja with fu manchu beard, I'd like to remind PM that a popular American stereotype of Germans is a bunch of guys running around in Prussian grays, with monicles, clicking their heels, and being outsmarted by Hogan's heroes).

Come on Tim just give in to the fu manchu Ninjas  ;D
I am surprised they did not make a  O0 for the African family

Hello, Timmy ...

American stereotype of ...

Because we are American, it is probably easier for us remember the various stereotypes that Americans have used to categorize the people of the world. However, it is very doubtful that we Americans have an exclusive on stereotyping, I'm sure that the people of every nation on earth look at everyone else through their own stereotypical eyes.

It really doesn't matter why we all do it. We just do. That doesn't mean that we should do it. We just do. It also doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to stop doing it. We just don't. Maybe, some day, we will.

Maybe some day we will all become more patient, more tolerant and more understanding. We may act different. We may even look different. However, we all have our hopes, our fears and our dreams. In this commonality we are one. And, it is in the knowledge of our oneness that we can share the prospect that we might one day appreciate the strength and beauty of our diversity.

It is an honorable and righteous battle that you wage, Timmy!

Stay the fight ... it's worth it!

All the best,
Richard

Only you, my eagle-eyed friend (with the memory of an elephant), would have noticed.
Yes, Ralf admitted that he had "bent his rules" and told us, "Yes, everything is original with a bit of gold paint on only two parts."

Thanks and all the best,
Richard
