Title: 6107 - Albrecht Dürer
Post by: drbatesy on June 23, 2021, 10:46:43
Our latest review is Albrecht Dürer, which you can read here (https://earlymodernplaymobil.wordpress.com/2021/06/21/6107/). This klicky is a real winner for me, not only because of the concept of the artist painting himself while actually in those clothes but also because those clothes are so dashing.

Great review, Steve!  Your (and A.'s) blog is a wonderful addition to the world of Playmobil enthusiasts.  :)

The Dürer special is one of my own favorite sets - I was a huge fan of Dürer's work long before I joined the Playmobil world.  I particularly admire his etchings and I especially love "Melencolia 1."  I don't even know why - it just speaks to me.

Back in the "good ol' days" of the Playmobil Collector's Club, we were given the chance to buy this set directly - I bought 5 of them.

I'd never seen that one before - it's remarkable!  :(o):

I think his most famous etching is the Praying Hands.

Not to forget the Rabbit  :).

I wasn't aware of Dürer having Hungarian origins - a new piece of knowledge, thanks! But his family definitely hadn't emigrated to Bavaria. In Dürers days Franconia was still Franconian, its Bavarian occupation beeing a resut of Napoleon (19th century).

What a coincidence, I opened mine yesterday.

It’s a very nice klicky, but I’m not convinced by the chainmail hair. Wouldn’t one of those poodle hair pieces used for british soldiers be more suitable? Do they exist in that colour?

Hare.

Sorry for being pedantic, Junker Jörg! As someone who enjoys looking at wildlife, it's always exciting to see a Hare, whereas Rabbits are a bit 'meh.'  And Dürer's supreme  study of a Hare (https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/feldhase/1QHEnzUGYMDG_w?hl=en-GB&ms=%7B%22x%22%3A0.5%2C%22y%22%3A0.5%2C%22z%22%3A9.200343425462446%2C%22size%22%3A%7B%22width%22%3A2.421297952992548%2C%22height%22%3A1.2375194625549446%7D%7D) clearly shows his understanding of, even affection for, his subject!

I'm absolutely fine with that as it's a chance to learn new things  :). So cheers!
