Title: One fine day at Hadrian's Wall...

Hadrian's Wall: at the furthest reaches of the Roman Empire, legionaries patrol the wall tops and huddle in their towers against the morning chill. Dew forms on the tips of their pila, and as they stare northwards, the sun starts to rise in the east.

Suddenly, with blood-curdling war cries, a horde of Picts and Caledonians charge from the woods towards the wall.

As the day wears on the battle rages

But the wall is well nigh impenetrable -

and the legionaries shower pila and arrows down on the attackers. The lucky ones retreat, while the less fortunate lie moaning and dying, their blood soaking into their native land.

The surviving chieftans gather for a war council. Many arguments for AND against renewing the attack are put forward.

One chief thinks that their war paint is not scary enough, and comes up with a new look.

Dawn the next day. The legionaries huggle on the walltops, scanning the north for the next warband.

Nice one, Martin, and very nicely photographed.  I think the Romans have had it this time. ;D

Great stuff! 8-)

Love the way you built the wall out of castle parts. Very effective.

The scarier war paint pic is priceless, especially the way all of the characters are suddenly looking directly at the camera. I sense the warriors are rolling their eyes at their chief's suggestion. ;D
