These Spanish Soldiers are great looking figures I just hope Playmobil produce more set's that include them in the future. Yet again the box images actually let's this set down and doesn't show you the actual size of this new rowboat. It looks from the box image that it is the normal sized two seater row boat but it is actually a four seater row boat. Not a huge amount of extra parts with this set but it is really worth getting for the boat alone.

.. i still prefer to mix the pirates with the royal navy guys.
thanks for the review.

The soldier with the breastplate is printed on the back as well (at least he is is he matched the Nordsee ones) - is the older fat soldier?
With this 4 man rowboat and the single sailboat coming out, there's now a great variety of small craft and bigger ships.
Anyone seen Roman Polanski's film "Pirates"?
Anyone NOT seen Roman Polanski's "Pirates"?
IMO the best paced, funniest and most imaginative pirate film yet, and the characters are perfect material to base Playmobil pirate characters on.

I've always liked that helmet, it's nice to see it in use again. It's great it's a new boat instead of yet another of the older style ones.

Nice new items there, Gary, and I agree with you wholeheartedly about the new figures. They just look so right. Thanks for the review.

No, Martin, the fat soldier just has a plain red back and like you have found from the Nordsee soldier the one here also has print on his back.

I like the larger boat and the new? treasure chest.
Maybe the boat could be stretched a bit for a
"Mutiny on the Bounty" adventure. Hmmmmmm
Thanks for the review, Sir Gareth.

Thanks for the review, especially the pics of the new larger rowboat! Very cool.

you are right captain, the larger rowboat is cool.
when the future 4444 kanonensegler set appears there will be 4 sizes of small boats (mini, normal, larger and big) - what a luxury! :wow:
(maybe this will make the pirates catch the knights on the poll...) ;)

Garry kindly sent me the plans for this set, and the PlaymoDB inventory is underway. I wanted to make sure I labeled the flag correctly, and, in so doing, found out that the coat of arms on this flag closely resembles the modern Spanish coat of arms, not one that would have been in use during the time of these soldiers! (Perhaps they're dressed up for an elaborate historical re-enactment.) Anyway, Spanish heraldry is gorgeous to look at and its history interesting, so I thought you guys would like to have a look.
