Title: Dürer's tray
Post by: Macruran on April 17, 2016, 22:19:25
I found a brown tray in my 6107 Albrecht Dürer. It looks like an alternate picture frame but it's not shown anywhere on the box. Is this a fluke? What could the reason of it be?

That is strange, normally it shouldn´t be there.
I also can´t think of a set containing such a darkbrown frame for a painting/picture ...

I don't have the Durer so pardon me for asking, but is the gold frame solid? If not does the frame snap onto it?

That's really strange though

The gold frame is solid. The brown frame snaps neither onto the front nor the back of the gold frame. The interior width (where the painting sticker would go) is exactly the same on both frames, but the interior height is 2 or 3 mm higher on the brown frame.

Part number is 32841904. Playmodb's got nothing on it.

How did you get that part number?
And are you sure the 2nd digit is a "2"? Normally it is allways a "0"...

By turning the tray over and reading the number. And yes I am absolutely sure the 2nd digit is a 2. See for yourself:

interesting! Now I'm really curious as to what it is.

It doesn't give any info on the German spare part site, other than its "no longer in stock"

I was gonna say it's a painting too - minus the sticker... Or a tray (looks like the xmas bakery ones), again, minus cookies sticker..

But the "branding" of parts is mostly a recent thing..

Is that number the Part Number, though?  I thought maybe it was a mould number or something.

I have a similar frame in blue ... and it has the identical number printed on the back.

What set is that one from Raven?

Oooh now I'm really curious too! Hope someone figures it out soon.

Raven is right: numbers molded into the plastic are MOLD numbers, and are the same for parts of the same mold. Completely unrelated to part numbers, which differ with colour and printing. I do have some in the database - they're searchable via text search - but I only have a few hundred, since I have to have the part in hand to be sure of the mold number (and only large-ish stiff plastic parts have them, it seems).

About the tray: looks like a mistake to me. I don't have a definite answer about its origin, but I'll explain my detective work.

If Raven has this part...
Part 30 21 8003 - "Picture frame, flat back" in blue (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-8003) from 5496 - Advent Calendar Christmas Room with Illuminating Tree (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5496)

and it is from the same mold as the mystery brown one, then it may be that it has the same German name: overwhelming evidence to support this. Other parts with "Leinwand" as the German name (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/textsearch.pl?text=leinwand&pics=on&sortby=colour&lang=de) are:

Part 30 45 4480 - "Picture frame, flat back" in white (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-45-4480) from 5998 - Playmobil Inn (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5998)
Part 30 21 5023 - "Tray with raised edges" in light yellow (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-5023) in 5587 - Christmas Market (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5587)
(There are a couple that are clearly not the same thing, but we'll ignore them for now.)

There is also a part that I have a number and German name, "Leinwand", for, but no picture or set assignment.
Part 30 21 6043 - "Leinwand III" in ? (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-6043)

This may very well be it. The sequence of part numbers starting with "30 21" leads me to believe it was first released in 2014. If anyone, digging through 2014 offerings, finds it, I'd be happy to match it up. I'm still pretty sure it doesn't belong with Dürer, though.

Its always great to see a master (-ess) at work, Heather!

Amazing, Heather! Thank you very much! We are always in your debt.

I guess that the sorting machine was programmed to add a "picture frame" to the box and somehow accidentally picked an extra, different frame.

I find it really weird in that sense. I think it must have gotten mixed in with the gold frames and just ended up as an extra. At least you also got the correct frame. and it didn't end up as a substitute.

Oh wow, that is so amazing - I had no idea where I'd got my blue picture frame from (it lives in a small container of 'unstickered signs').  But, yes, it is from that set.  I didn't think I'd ever use a Christmassy picture, so I never put the sticker on; just left it blank, so I could use it for other (printed-out image) things.

I'd love to know where the brown version comes from, though, and its part number.  To have a brown unstickered frame would be so much more useful and versatile than just a blue one.....

Well I certainly have no use for it. Let's make a deal! :D

I think I received this one with both of my Dürers. So I used one painting on the gold frame and one on this wooden one which can be seen in the story I did for my purchases after it came in.

It fits better in the gold frame though, since it leaves much less uncovered space.

The frame is interesting and so Rhalius as well has a Dürer set that came with this brown frame...
That raises "The Great Dilemma"... Should we unbox our MISB Dürers in the hope of finding too such a mistakenly added darkbrown picture frame?  :hissyfit:

Since Rhalius got two it seems that, if a mistake, it was made on a run of them and not just the one I got.

I can't remember mine.... Just that one of the hats had no "stripes"... But I do plan to open a couple more (when I get there), hope I remember to note...

Fascinating - I often get additional bits and pieces in my packets but nothing unidentifiable!
