Title: Tugboat
Post by: National Playmographic on January 11, 2016, 12:15:17
As I always wanted to build, here is my old style tugboat for Playmobil.

It started like this: saw a hull from an ugly Disney Peter Pan pirate boat and a horse trailer from Sleich. The hull seemed very appropiate for this kind of ship, after it was naked from masts, etc. The trailer was a happy concidence.

This is the making of, beginning from a very early mockup to a completed ship.

Hope you all like it!

More pics!

Adding some height...

Used some rivets to attach the lower cabin to the deck... Not fixed until painting is done

Test-fitting the stairs and upper railing

The cabin will be fitted with rivets as well. The cabin ceiling will be able to be taken off, as well as the cabin fixed to the upper deck, giving access to the lower cabin. Good for playing!

Railing test.. it is a methacrylate rod, which fits into clickies hands.. cannot remember the measure, around 3mm in diameter??

Bending the railing

Be gentle with the torch, as the rod is very heat sensitive (note the bubbles inside the rod at the corners)

I always try to find the right balance between simplicity and some fancy details... it's sometimes hard, to keep it as a "playable" toy and interesting enough for adults hehhe

Genial gemacht - auch wenn Dich meine Tochter für diese Zweckentfremdung eines PFERDEanhängers definitiv lynchen würde  ::) - a masterpiece of work - even though my doughter wuld surely kill you in as many painful ways as can be imagined for having desecrated a HORSEtrailer  8}.

I'll just never let her see...  8-).

Irre, das Endergebnis. Ein super Boot! Ist es auch schwimmfähig? The result is overwhelming! A splendid vessel. Would it swim if put into water or rather sink?

That's an amazing custom, congratulations! I hope it can float - and that the remote control underwater motor fits - it would look grand sailing about in a pond!
Title: Re: Tugboat
Post by: National Playmographic on February 16, 2016, 14:49:39
The float test is still pending... I see no reason for the tugboat not floating, but... we'll see. Also, I planned no ballast for this ship..
Photo session is pending too!

 ;D

The remote control motor will not fit, unless I build a custom attachment for it.. remember the hull isn't playmo.

Thnaks a million for your kind comments!
