Title: 5632 - Jim's Food Truck
Post by: Tiermann on August 04, 2015, 14:23:19
Here it is, one of the most anticipated export sets in a couple of years I think.

The box opened - it's pretty well stuffed in there, one of the bags is inside the truck and the rest around the edges. Nothing here for Tahra to complain about in the size of the box, it fits perfectly.

The content bags laid out

Here are some views of the vehicle

the side with the top fin removed - it comes off fairly well if you want to use the truck some other way, though the name is printed on the front

The front cab comes off to allow you to put the figures inside, and there is a panel that comes off the roof plus opening back doors to allow access for the back section.

The interior through the side door, top, and back doors. The sticker inside is the hardest to place sticker I have done with a Playmobil set, very awkward for adult fingers to get in there. Most of the stickers are on the accessory parts though and easy to apply. The usual PM style license plates - a very European look on an otherwise US looking set.

Here's the included table which is sized so it fits nicely in the back of the truck no problem, and the sign that uses a sticker to give prices and items sold.

The food is mulitpart.

Fries have a paper holder with a clip on the end so a Klicky can hold them, and the yellow fries themselves

The burger has four parts. Top and bottom bun, burger, and lettuce. The lettuce has three pins on one side to hold half the bun, and two larger pins on the other side that go through the burger and lip into the other side of the bun. The gap in the lettuce allows a Klicky to hold onto the bun when the burger is made.

The hot dog with bun, two little pins in the bun and holes in the hot dog. Plus the bun has slots for a Klicky hand as well.

The only piece the set could have that it doesn't is the hot dogs and burger piece from the BBQ sets. Here I've added that to the grill in the interior.

The truck is already drawing a crowd

I think Pizza Man is not entirely happy there is new competition in town

For the Klickies the customer has a torso that's been used before, but the torso on Jim I think is new. This might make a good place for the fast food female worked from the add-ons plus series.

This is just a great set. Love almost everything about it, and I really feel if you have any modern theme at all it's a must have set. It will fit in on any street scene, and at settings like a fire, police action, amusement park, and so on. It can even show up at your knight or Western battles if you like mixing your themes at all.  Very versatile set. Love the new burger, fries and hot dog. The fries are also available in the water park set out now in Germany, as well as the fast Food restaurant add-on set that includes all three new food pieces.
That's it for this review, thanks for reading

Thanks for the detailed pics :)

I am looking forward to this one as well.. and will need extra food parts.

The burger seems very well thought of.

The van is very much like the DHL one (I just assembled it this weekend), but the side doors on the other are top to bottom.

Excellent review, thanks a lot Tiermann

This is indeed an instant classic that will give Frankie's a run for his money. Poor Frankie's!
The new food items are what excite me most of all. The burger can be assembled and everything. And there's a ketchup and mayo bottle, hadn't noticed that before either.

You're right, it's a must have.

Or a mediaeval re-enactmenr diorama.

Great review ans photos, Tim; many thanks.

I had wondered if it might have a hatch each side, like some ice-cream vans do, with a view to converting it into a small fire engine (although it could make a good fire service canteen van).

Thanks for the review Tim.  :thanks:
I must get this when it's available here.
I got the fries, hot dogs, burgers and drinks cups through ds for Kirkbean and I loved them!
One thing though, it says that the burger buns come in sets of three so I bought burgers and lettuce to match but actually they came in sets of two.

Great review Tim.  This set seems very well thought out.  I really like all the food items and the fact that they can be held by the klickies.  I agree that it would be at home in any PM city scape.  It is a great addition to the line.

That's very useful information: I've got the hamburgers listed to order from Parts, and yes, I'd written down x3 lettuces, x3 burgers for each set of burger buns.  I'll correct it now.

Great review Tim. This is a must have for us and I am trying to figure out how to use multiples of it . Perhaps changing the name and adding new food items will do the trick.

Yeah I was thinking you could remove the paint and do new graphics and make it a Chinese food truck, and maybe paint one blue with wave designs and call it Sharky's and do sea food. Maybe replace the small sign fin with a big shark fin on the back of the truck. :D

or paint it black, put four male klickies (one ethnic baldie) in it and call it The A Team!

Paint them different colors, give them punning names (e.g. "Fried Egg I'm In Love"), staff them with hipster klickies and do a Portland diorama.

A beautifull set that really shows they can still make simple yet very clever sets that add a lot to a theme.

A fast food truck does not sound overly special after all, but its not been done yet and they didnt only just do it, they also where quite clever with hamburgers and hotdogs that can be assembled, allowing a bit more detail in play.

Nice review looks like he's well prepared with all his fresh ingredients and a good work space liking the accessories and choices of food they all look very realistic and good that they can be held by the klickies feel sorry for the pizza guy though never know we might see a surge in fat klickies if this place proves popular  ;)
