Hello, Playmofriends ...
Back in the old days, when digital cameras were in their infancy (my very first one was from Apple and it was called a "QuickTake"), i took some some pictures of my Playmobil.
Beginning today, I am going to begin sharing those Playmobil digital photos of yesteryear ... :)
I will try to post one a day.
Hopefully, I will not bore everyone (some of you may even find it interesting) ... ;)
Please let me know what you think ... :)
All the best,
Richard

Interesting to see all these old sets, Richard. Do you still have them?

Hmmm ... Do I still have them? Interesting that you would ask, Gordon ...
I do indeed still have ALL of my little Klickys. You can go HERE (http://www.gardenwargames.com/tour/01.html) to see where I store them ...
Thanks for asking, Gordon ... :)

Richard

:o Wow, never seen this before. This looks like a lovely area around your storage rooms? Is your house "on top" of these storage rooms? This looks like your house is standing alone in the landscape; how far is your next neighboor away? (Sorry, for being that curious, but seems like a really nice place I want to know more about, if you don't mind).
Did I see correctly in storage room one: you do have two original boxed park fences?!? :o
Another generel question: do you have a set just only once? Seems that you buy each set even more than once.

Hello, Jochen ...
This is a very, very "secret" location (deep in the woods) ... And, it is indeed far, far away from any curious neighbors ... ;)
However, as a trusted fellow moderator, if you send me a private message with your email address, I will send you a URL that will answer most of your questions ... :)

Since I have been collecting Playmobil for such a long time, I have almost everything that was ever made. I also have duplicates of most sets.
I am currently completing an inventory of my entire Playmobil collection. Hopefully, I'll have it finished sometime this summer. If you would like a copy of the inventory, please let me know.
Thanks for your questions!
All the best,
Richard

Thanks for your comments and questions, Arab Warrior ...
The QuickTake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_QuickTake) had a resolution of 640x480 pixels. However, I replaced it with my first digital video camera as soon as they came out! (The "still" photos were much better than the QuickTake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_QuickTake)!) But, none of these "early" cameras can compare to the megapixel wonders that are now available. And, today's digital cameras are even less expensive!
Today there are two photos. An "old" one and an "older" one:
"Oompah!"

*drooling* I am envious :wow:

Thank you for your kind comments, Dunc ...
Yes, there are a "few" jeeps in there, but probably not as many as you have ... ;)

Hello, Playmofriends ...
Today, just for fun ... some "old" photos of:
"The Gold Mine and Zorro" ... :)
-
, but probably not as many as you have ... ;)
I'm not real sure how many I have at the moment, basically one each of every set made (many incomplete) and a few extras for customs, maybe around 25. I haven't had them out for a couple years.
But have no fear, there is going to be a Playmo Jeep Jamboree this year and you may just see them all. :o
Oh... The Oompa's and Zorro are cool.

Today (13 April 2007) is GardenWargaming's NINTH Anniversary. It's hard to believe NINE years have gone by so fast!

I mustn't forget to show this to my wife, you know she thinks i have loads of playmobil!!
 Yes. mine exactly too. Just this morning she said (after I asked her to fetch one of the new zoo sets at her regular Saturday morning shopping for me) "Where should this end?" ... here is the answer ;D
BTW, I have some good arguments for her, because in the same way I'm Playmobil enthusiastic she is keen on books -- nearly no day without a new book :P
Thanks Richard for these very nice and informative pictures. I'm really impressed what a lot of stuff you have. And even some rar and/or old sets in quite some quantity.
(The Playpeople nurse looks interesting; how tall is she? Doesn't seem she has the obligatory 7,5 cm)
-
Thanks for sharing your pics from the old box Richard
Loved them all
and looking at your stock am happy am not the only mad man in the world ;D

Hello, Arab Warrior and Little Jo ...
My wife has "tolerated" my Playmobil for many years ... :yup:
Fortunately, her hobby is much more expensive. She buys and redecorates houses ... :)
(The Playpeople nurse looks interesting; how tall is she? Doesn't seem she has the obligatory 7,5 cm)
Playpeople were exactly the same as Playmobil. Only the name was different. Take a look at the Playpeople section of Gyps's (Julie's) Castle Sauvage website, HERE (http://www.castlesauvage.com/Old_Playmo/playpeople.html)!
Thank you very much, Rob and Jochen for your comments.

Thanks again and all the best,

Richard! How can you do this to us? :o
That is dirty pool man! Get us all worked up and addicted and then cut us off cold turkey like that. Shame on you. ;D

Hello Richard, I am so glad there is another '2 of everything' out there. Once I fall in love with a set I simply must have a spare! Also means when buying used sets I can generally get one completed and the other for the Grandchild! Love all the LGB and Playmo trains. Our first large set was the western trainset, new in the box for $20.00 AUD, true (a long and very happy story!!!!!) It was $699.00 in the stores here, back in the day as my daughter would say! SQ.

Hello, Suzi ...
It appears that you're having a lot of fun exploring the Playmofriends forum. As you've probably already seen, there are some very interesting things "buried" here and there.
BTW ... Thanks for resurrecting this old topic of mine. My computer has been back in service for months. I just simply forgot about all the old photos that I was going to post. Maybe I should see if I can find where I put them and post a few more. I wonder if anyone's stlll interested in seeing them?
All the best,
Richard
-
Richard I am sure everyone wants to see them, your themes are 'so pretty' and realistic! Makes me want to move towns! Please post some when you have time. I also had a 'quick take', thought it was 'the bee's knees' paid a fortune for it, next minute it was sooooo 'old hat'. Cheers SQ

Hello, Suzi ...
Thank you very much for your very generous compliments ... :-[
I will look for the "old Photo" folder this weekend.
Suzi, you said that you had a QuickTake. Are you a Mac user?
All the best,
Richard
-
Back in the old days, when digital cameras were in their infancy (my very first one was from Apple and it was called a "QuickTake")
Brings back memories! ... started my digital foray with a QuickTake 150 back in 96/97 iirc ... and I'm NOT a Mac user ;D (okay, used/using a Mac off and on, but I'm comfortable with PC and it helps pay the bills to boot).
On a side note, have you found a way to batch convert *.qtk files to jpg or any other current formats? I have a couple 1000's of shots which is a pain to convert to jpg/tiff a small batch at a time using the QTK program.
-
Hello, Peter ...
Fortunately, I still have a few old Macs that will run QuickTake software.
Click HERE (http://blog.richardsprague.com/2005/01/quicktake-camera-photo-conversion.html) for a pretty good article about some things to try.
All the best,
Richard

Thanks again to Suzi, for the "reminder" to continue to share the old photos ... 8}
From time to time, when things are a bit quiet (like now), I'll pull out some of the photos of yesteryear and post them here.

"The Western Meeting House"
This building had many uses in a typical American Western town.
It was the town hall, the church, the school, the meeting house for political and social events, and it could even be used as a courtroom. This was a community building built and used by all of the local townspeople.

Richard they are so pretty, very beautiful> I could imagine living in such peaceful settings. Keep sharing! I am bidding on some Eskimos and igloos as we speak! I am so wanting a church, the blue adds a lovely relief to the other buildings, cheers SQ :) :)

Richard, thanks for the linky - unfortunately I've only access to OS-X ... still, the original Windows QuickTake s/w runs fine in XP, it's just a pain converting the QTK one at a time.
oh, those close-ups bring brings back memories of snapping on the close-up lens and lining up the parallel lines/distance gauge (think I use a black credit-card to fit between the arrows in the viewfinder) ;D

Yes, the blue stripe is from my local auto parts store. I've found that automobile pin-striping tape has lots of uses in the playmo-world ... :)

Hi Richard!
The scenes are really nice.
The Quick Take mention brought back "memories"--in 97 my computer science class prof brought in a camera and was quite proud of the digital photo he'd taken of his house. The camera had nothing to do with our class, but we passed that photo from person to person while he explained in nearly incomprehensible Japanese English that digital photography was the wave of the future.
What do your adult children think of your PM collection? Are they old enough to have children, who on each visit want to take some home with them?
Your setups have a sort of peaceful, quiet atmosphere that the slight graininess of the old photos helps brings out--photos of things that don't exist anymore...
Well, I guess the current modern life / city living theme is pretty detailed and extensive. Maybe the problem is that the sets we all liked most are the ones no longer in production....

A "prognosticator" ... 8}

Both of our daughters "aid and abet" their father's hobby. And, since neither of them have children as of yet ... dad is still the family's "designated child" ...

Richard, your collections, phtographies and stages are incredible and perfect. :wow:
I envy the great number of clickies you have :'(
I would want you to change some things, however (sorry, don't want to be bothering):
-please, put a rapier in that "Zorro" of yours instead of that scimitar!!
-Please, remove the saber from the captain of the Nuremberg mercenaries, left him with his original sword.
Sorry, I just cannot avoid looking at the swords :0
And greetings for the Gardenwargaming-Playclicks site!!!
-
oops, I apologize, just saw the real Zorro in the earlier pages... so the extranger should not be what I called the "Zorro" above (however, the rapier would look better than the saber, I think). :-[
Another thing, the kepi of the French foreign legionnaire... is available in a Playmobil set, or was home- made by you? too nice!!

I'm not even here, ... you know? ;D
Even so, I have to say,
WOW!
... WOW!
For some odd reason, I hadn't followed this thread from the beginning ... It's ... Emocionante! Uhm ... It makes me wanna cry (of delight)!
:) :-\ :'( :)
It's BEAUUUUTIFUL!!! :yup:
& It's amazing! :wow:
(And it's possibly a problem to the future, in what concerns storage ...) :hmm:
And it makes me understand more sensibly one commentary you made to Little Jo's picture of Little Jo's Playmo storage section in his (little) house, as well as the feelings of Little Jo's (and other people's) wife (& wives; including Jochen's) ... ;D
It's great to see threads like these, Richard! ... It's a lifetime in and with Playmobil! It's an inspiration to everyone here, no doubt! Thanks & thanks, for sharing your life with us!
:)

I adore looking at all of these pictures! Wow!
I especially love seeing all of the instruments I didn't know they had! The Oompah Band, I think I saw a violinist... So exciting!
-
Hello, Playmofriends ...
It really is time to post the final "old photos" and end this topic.
Anne (Indianna) made a comment that Playmobil's recent Advent Calendars seemed to have strayed a bit and don't seem to represent Christmas very well.
Interestingly, our final "old photos" seem to have somewhat of a Christmas flavour ... ;)
The first old photo is titled "Holiday Station".

I hope that everyone has enjoyed this topic as much as I've enjoyed sharing it.

Thank you for your comments, Gepetto ... :)
I had a good time digging up these old photos. Trips down "memory lane" can be a lot of fun!
The "Oompah Band" was made from the Klicky in set 3686. And the instruments came from various sets.
