Hi,
I wanted to check out if it was possible to reconfigure a female figure so that her upper body could move from left to right. I think it worked nicely. The first picture is in neutral position and the other pictures show the twisting motion.

picture 2..
-
and picture 3.
-
Wow! Another first. :o
You never cease to amaze me, MBL. How did you achieve this? I'm assuming there's some kind of 'pin' which holds the two sections together?
Great stuff! :)9
-
:o Wow...yes, please! Tell us how you managed this! (Soon we may have twisting and kicking klickies! My chorus line is starting to seem possible!)
-
WOW
you have been busy.
I am very intrigued on how you were able to make the grand lady's arms stay on.
I assume the arm still have their original mobility
-
It all started to fit together (mmh, multi-layered expression ;) ) when I was thinking about this idea and was holding a male and female frame next to eachother. I noticed they could be merged into one frame.
Here are the necessities to start with...
-
Next I cut off the redundant portions of both frames, drilled a hole in both ends and connected them with a flanged pin with the upper half of the frame assembly glued onto it, making a pivoting movement possible. The outer body was then cut in two to match the split level of the frame (actually I used 2 bodies to compensate for material loss during cutting with a metal saw). The technique can be improved, as this is just a prototype.
-
Your technique with the frames is amazing.
I can see the devel is in the details.
Such precision with each frame :)9
-
Hello MBL
This is a truly wonderfull custom, i really admire your work :)9. Thank you for showing us how you acheived such an amazing custom.
Regards Tim :)

I was wondering how much was lost. What kind of saw do you use?

When sawing, there is a 1 millimeter wide groove; without compensation it just wouldn't look right. I'm using a small metal saw.
-
do you use a dremel tool?
-
do you use a dremel tool?
I have no dremel, only an old electric modelling fraise that I use only occasionally. Most of the custom work is done with a knife, files and sandpaper (and sometimes a metal saw) and not to forget the epoxy mass.
-
Ok, I'm a beginner so this is probably beyond me but what is a dremel and, where does one get that small of a metal saw? A hobby shop? This is stunning work MBL!
-

In the Netherlands those saws are generally available at a do it yourself-market; they are just plain small hand saws with a 15 cm blade.

Fascinating custom Jean-Luc! A great idea. The result is marvellous
I have a Dremel. It is powerful, you could easily lose a finger. 8}
i seem to use the same tools as you for customising.. and cocktail sticks for the Milliput.
-
... and cocktail sticks for the Milliput.
I use bamboo skewers ;D ... but I haven't tried using milliput yet (although I have some), you may be getting an email about that soon ;)

Wow! Another first. :o
In case some do not know what Sylvia is talking about:
-
That is VERY cool! I thought she was talking about the new football klickies (yours is better)
-
In case some do not know what Sylvia is talking about:
Indeed! I was thinking about the swivelling arms you made. ;D 8-)
I don't think I'd seen them combined with the kicking legs though. What a combination! :o
-
For model work you can buy what some people call razor saws which cut very fine. A firm called Zona make them amongst others. They can have very fine teeth and so cut very smoothly.
-
Clever figures :)

I split the answers to this question from this topic and created a new one ;)
What is a Dremel? (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=233.0)

Here is the proof that male klickies can also have twisting torsos. To fixate the two body parts, a slightly altered method had to be used. These were created for playmofire btw.
-
And Playmofire is eternally grateful - :wow: :wow: :wow:
-
sorry for kicking up this old thread...it's Gordon's fault ;)

matchboxluc...if youre still here ;) I just want to say for this 'invention', you deserve a customisers' Nobel Prize from the Council of Customisers...and recorded in our future collector's club's Hall of Fame!! :)
-
wow, thanks for finding this thread again. amazing.

-
Truly amazing, that is an ingenious custom. :o
-
I'll post more pictures when we've moved home and the klickies are out of storage.
-
   Amazing work well done.
-
I am jealous.;)
-
Now if only Playmobil itself would do this!
-
   Amazing work well done.
Not mine but matchboxluc's Emma.

Recent posts are very interesting. In another thread about how Playmobil might be improved I mentioned these klickies and the idea got no support at all. ???

The same with me on Playmoboard - someone even stated that if I liked that so much I should just have lego ...

Yes, I think it would be a nice addition to Playmobil actually.

with 'split' legs for soccer players...now, swimmer's legs etc(we could start a thread on this and show the internal skeleton to those who dont own them yet or are scared to diassemble them with the hand method...I could do that but I'm still trying to put up some of my old customs) ;)
turning torsos will look very nice for those klickies sitting in playmo vehicles
where's matchboxluc now, Gordon? ???
