Finally got my train show video delivered from the editor
what do you think? Does he keep his job or do I fire him?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ_kOv__lH4&feature=youtu.be
-
I love the fast motion you did! Finally a glimpse how much work has been done before the audience sees the result.
-
Awesome! It's great to see some quality public Playmobil layout competition stateside.
-
WOW. I need to watch that video several more times, but that is a huge and awesome dio. And I LOVE the shots from inside the train of the town and countryside whizzing by. Nice to show all the work that went into it, too. I know how long it takes to do my dioramas and I've never done anything of that magnitude, so I can only imagine. Great job!
-
Btw, what's with the house at 1:21 between the saloon and schoolhouse buildings? What is under it?
-
I like frames 1:30, 1:55 & 1:57 for overall layout shots
Stefan, thanks. I was told to use the GoPro3 we have on a setting that takes a picture every 10-ish seconds. I kind of messed up due to the SD card not having enough room. I missed the last parts of the set up. I think there were more than 30,000 pictures taken. Please join me for a show and you can feel my pain
Glazz, thank you. its members like you who gave me the idea to do shows. I have been flowing yours and other members layouts for years. I have big ideas on a modern layout. Big ideas for making this western layout dimensional as well.
bb, I am glad you like it. It was a lot of fun entertaining children and adults. The shot from inside of the train car is some of my favorites and the editor should have a lot more footage. I did shots from both sides of the towns. Oh at 1:21 I put a train transformer inside a house. When the train gets going I set the house on it but it did not fit. We have accidents all day long so we try to get quick access to shut the train down.
-
This is amazing. It is a very nice video. I was wondering, do you draw a design before you start building or is it in your head?
I love the different scenes: harbour, woods, western village! Just great!
-
Wonderful video Ras and the diorama is very nice and so huge!! I remember the bridge you made for this work. It is fantastic!!
George. :)
-
Amazing stuff! I'm jealous of the amount of room you had there to setup! Oh and of course the insane amount of Playmo to setup!
Western style playmo still is the best!
-
sunflower, thanks, I do not have a design drawn out. I have a basic idea in my head and just shoot from the hip. I know I wanted two nice towns, a ghetto, lake, bridge, Indian village, forts and the forest. How it goes together is just random
George, yes the bridge of last years show was very fun but I did not have time to build it. I still had a bridge but it was not a working suspension bridge. Thanks for the comments.
Keesinho Thank you. I tried to get more room and tables but I was late in the negotiations. Maybe next year we can get bigger than the 1200 sq. ft. we have had. Western is one of our favorites as well.
-
Impressive layout. That's a lot of display to try to do for a show. I assume it went over well with the crowds and the organizers.
-
Thanks Tim, It was a lot and I do most of it by myself in 16 hours. I tried to get the kids to help but they have school and all during the day. Yes the crowds love it especially the kids. I let them set stuff up and operate the trains. The organizers.....um well.....as many in here know I am always negotiating and pushing for more :-[ They know I bring in the crowds so too bad for them. Other area organizers are trying to get me to do bigger shows where there are huge crowds. I was told that 15,000 visitors is a small show. The only problem is they can not give me large spaces, back to the negotiations.
Around here I have raised the bar on how train dioramas look. Many displayers are now having to rethink their boring layouts.
-
Yeah, I was noticing how tiny some of the displays in the background look!
-
Well certainly for a video like that I would thank him most kindly it most effectively displays that rather large, beautfiul and varied ladnscape love the speeded up shots of you setting up and indeed the train going round the track passing by all the country brilliant work I particularly liked the look of the Rockies and the Indians camp :cowboy: :indian:
-
Great work, Ras, both on the layout and the video. The shots from on and inside the rolling stock are very realistic, especially the speed of the train. Is this the actual speed or has the video been slowed down in editing? All too often the scale speed on rail layouts seems to be too fast, but not here.
-
Amazing train layout and a great video - very cool !!! i can imagine how much hard work that was...

Rene, thanks for the comment. to me this falls into the category of "hard play" :P
Richard , Thank you very much. I too think it was the best one yet but I have lots of room for improvement. Merry Christmas to your beautiful family as well.
here is the aerial shot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmJzpD7ILtk
I do not know if I am doing something wrong but it took over 200 minutes to load this to youtube ???
-
Your link doesn't seem to work, Ras. It just takes you to an upload channel.
-
Oh I will check that Gordon, thanks for the info
do these work? and does the one on top now work?
Here is a video for bb, take a ride on the yellow coach

Here is a video of a break-mans perspective from the roof of the caboose

-
Hi Gordon, yes that was the normal speed of the train for the ride along shots. I have one more for you that is riding on the red coach. Thank you for the comments :xmascheer:
These videos take many hours to load to youtube but only minutes to make 8}
-
Such an awesome view from inside the coach, makes you feel like you're there. Except the giants walking around look really funny from that angle. :P
And the video from the top of the caboose gave some great views of the dio I hadn't seen, like the wolf hunt and indian village. Spotted some strange sights at the 2:30 mark.
-
Great show. <*) :candle:
-
Here is one for Gordon, its a passenger ride on the red coach in the other town. Its the town to the left from aerial vulture view. Its pretty easy to see the custom gallows we made

:omg: Oh my!! I totally missed this topic.
It's absolutely beautiful and I cannot believe you pulled this off with the time you had :o
If a kid sees this, surely all his/her Lego and Barbie-stuff is cast aside immediately? ;D The things I saw when I was young (in toy museums and on box art) aren't even close to what you achieve with your set-ups.
Excellent video, music and editing 8-) I love the fast-forward bit where we can see the whole diorama gradually coming to life. And riding along with the train, it really shows the attention to detail that is put into every section.
I think the painting/mural/projection of a meadow at one side of the arena looks amazing, by the way. Is it a permanent thing, or for the exhibition?
-
Hi Birdie,
Thank you, I am very glad you like it. We have fun building it. Well actually I have fun seeing all the kids come alive when they see it. Lots of parents also become kid-like when they are looking at the diorama. The set up is very back breaking work, not in weight (i know what that is due to logging) but being bent over on your knees is annoying. I do most of it myself, the kids find it annoying as they know its not play time and they get protective over our collection. I have to remind them its OK for kids to touch and I encourage visitors to set stuff up.
The mural on the walls is temporary. They repaint it a few times a year depending on what show is in there. This was left over from the county fairs hall of flowers event.
I will let my friend know about his video editing job. I like how when the music has changes he put in diffrent shots at the same time.
-
Love the three ride alongs. You get a great view of the scenes with them. It's an amazingly big layout to put together.
-
I have missed this post till now ! Outsanding work and video standards . Superb and thanks so much for sharing , love so many parts of it I wont bore everyone with details i will just watch it all over again
Simply superb ! I want to set my trains now too, have about 80metres of LGB rail track now :-[
-
wonderfull Train layout
I love your Bridge, well done
congratz
all the best

Thank you George and Michael. I am glad you like it and just wait till I am able to build the next more elaborate one. I am trying to find a space that I would have more than 14 hours to set it up and it could stay up for more than 3 days. Its so much work and leaves so little time to do video and pictures.
