Title: New to Playmobil!
Post by: sysliana on September 02, 2013, 16:22:38
Hey everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. Im a mom of an (almost) 4 year old. Our playmobil journey began last year when I was in a small toy store looking for Christmas/Birthday ideas for my LO. I was in the Lego isle looking at the Duplo Zoo when the guy suggested I look into Playmobil 1,2,3 but I didnt like the look of it. Later, closer to Christmas, I was roaming Toys R Us and saw they had a buy one get one half off sale on all Playmobil stuff. I looked through it and found the Camper Van and thought it was so cute! So I purchased that, along with the little summer house, and got the little pool for free. He absolutely loved it. Plays with the Van almost every single day. Then, a friend got us the Ambulance, and the added lights and sounds of the Ambulance was all the rage.

Later, when tax season came around, I wanted to get him something else, something real nice. At the time he wanted the Zoo, but looking back I kind of wish I hadnt gotten it. He doenst like or play with the Zoo as much as he does the Van and Ambulance and house. It falls apart easy and its just not interesting enough for him.

My playmobil addiction has started with the little Surprise packages. Im addicted. I never really noticed them in 5 Below, passed them up constantly. But now, Im hooked. A little too late, but I found a bunch of Series 2 and bought them out, first the boys as there were only like 6 packs of them, and then 2 weeks later bought 20 bucks of the girls. Then on a trip to Toys R Us, I found Series 4, again, only a few of both girls and boys, but I bought them out. Later when I had an eye appointment, we sat and put them all together which my LO Loved. Now he has quite the collection of random little people, which end up all over the house, in the bathtub, scattered around his room. He loves to take them apart and put them back together (he does it better then me, and surprisingly hasnt broken any yet) :/

Anyway, Im hoping our Playmobil journey has just began. I cant wait for the next 6 or 7 years to pass by and am soo glad I gave Playmobil a chance last year and starting him off young! I love playing with him just as much as he does lol.

Welcome from Portugal!

Glad you joined us, and that you're both enjoying playmobil :)

As to the fact that your kid didn't break anything, there's nothing surprising there! Playmobil is made to LAST. Our old ones here endured gym classes, rodeos, diving contests, races, jumps and all... and they are now fine at the ripe age of almost 33! :)

Hello and welcome from Canada!

You have many years of play ahead of you with your son, I'm sure you'll both enjoy it!  And when he's grown, you may find yourself still enamoured of them! (I know I did! - my teens shrug and say "it's my Mom's" when their friends ask about all the Playmobil!)

LOL thats funny. Yes, Im really glad I found it and I started him off so young. This year for Christmas all he wanted was mostly Playmobil stuff.. He originally had asked for the Dinosaur volcano with the Trex, which I already got him. I also got the Pteranodon because its discontinued and I wanted him to have it for his Dino collection. He also asked me for the Police Station which I indulged in, but once we started opening up the Fi?ures, and he got the pilot, all he could think about was wanting the Airplane, so I traded in the police station for the Airplane. Also to add to the dino collection I got the motorcycle explorer and the Dino Advent Calander. I heard it was mostly disappointing except for the bigger days, so I was hoping that with the Trex and Pteranodon he could just add the littler stuff to thsoe sets and it wouldnt be quite as disappointing. (Those Im going to give him for his birthday on Dec 2). Also for the bathtub, I got the speedboat and the little SUV with the jetski and the motor. This will all be split up between his birthday and Christmas. It doesnt seem like very much, but because playmobil is so expensive, it did. Oh well lol. I know he will have a blast with it all.

Hes also asked me for a castle, but I think that will just be a little to much for him at 4. I think the pirate ship and the castle will be better left for Birthday/Christmas next year. And I cant WAIT until Friday to put my biweekly $20 Playmobil money into more Fi?ures haha ;)

Welcome from Western Canada.

Don't wish the time to go by any faster than it will.  It will be gone before you know it and you will wonder where it went and want it back.

Enjoy it in the present.

Yes, but when they reached 12 and 14 they had lost interest a bit and I had to confess that I was really buying it for myself!
However they still help me with dioramas for Kirkbean Exhibition  every year.  :)

hello and welcome from the netherlands!

28 and childless, yet I buy the occasional bit of playmobil. Mostly medieval and pirate stuff to make picture stories with.
Been away from playmobil from around age 14, had trouble letting go of these charming little people but peer pressure and parent pressure got to me.
Occasionly I did buy a little box over the years, but the occasions where rare up to two years ago.

Back then I saw some nice pirates and having a dentist appointment coming up, I promised myself I would be allowed to buy a playmobil box for every individual thing that needed to be fixed at the dentist.
Fate would have it that all my four wisdom teeth where pulled out, which meant I got to buy four playmobil boxes for myself.

Soon afterwards, I bought a redcoat fort at a toystore and signed up with playmofriends. Pretty much doubled my collection ever since. Taking it slow these days though, I tend to make one big purchase each summer and buy some smaller things through the years in stores.
Dont have that much space so need to reserve it for the stuff I really can put to good use in stories.

Im trying to go slow as well with my son. He has his own room but it fills up really quick  with toys lol.. and between Playmobil and Imaginext theres not much room. Imaginext takes up a lot more room though! Just last night my sons camper van family went on a vacation to the Imaginext jungle and that was interesting lol.

Im going to get him the dino set and airport sets this year, and add to them probably through out this year and next year, then later when hes about 6 start on the castle and the pirateship sets.. and that should be it. I cant really see him playing with much else, but then again, things change so fast. He wasnt even the slightest bit interested in the airplane until we got the pilot fi?ure so we'll see.

and welcome from Amsterdam, the Netherlands! Yes, this is how a renewed addiction starts.. When my wife was pregnant, I bought in a sale six Praetorian (Romans), two gladiators and three crusaders.. I was overwhelmed how beautiful the klickies are.. Bought some regular legionnaires as well on the DS, an emperor on eBay. In the meantime I had become a father of a.... daughter. Kept the soldiers for myself and bought some fairies and unicorns. Now my collection is three or four times bigger then when I was a kid.

Used the soldiers to make chess sets in themes.. Romans vs Gauls or Egyptians, crusaders vs mongols etc. A new idea came up: a Playmobil fantasy comic! Posted on this board (links in my signature).

Make some free space in your home indeed, like mfrankena said.. and better keep the wallet closed sometimes if you don't want to end up under a bridge.. ;)
