Title: figure suggestions/predictions.
Post by: Rhalius on August 28, 2013, 14:10:18
Seeing how the figures are here to stay and with batch 5 released, I'm already looking forward to what batch 6 will bring.

my suggestions:

men:
-Victorian english gentleman with bowler hat and walking stick. (and a curly mustache and a monicle of course)
-Norman knight in chainmail and helmet with noseguard. Armed with a long spear, sword and tear shaped shield.
-Frankenstein clicky. (seems perfect considering the figures are designed to easily swap body parts.)
-Dwarf smith with hammer and apron.
-spanish toreador.
-Hospitaller knight.
-bodyguard in suit with sunglasses.
-Gladiator.
-renaissance merchant with paper and bag of gold.
-medieval messenger with sealed scroll and carrying a bag that the scroll can be put in.
-sailor with signal flags.
-Aztec warrior with traditional aztec warclub and shield.
-Prisoner in orange jumpsuit.
-Redcoat drummer.
-American revolutionairy soldier with musket and early american flag.

women:
-Amazon dressed in classical greek armor style, armed with a bow.
-Old victorian lady.
-Dutch cheese girl, wearing traditional dutch dress and carrying a cheese wheel.
-Medieval adventurer with sword and torch.
-African tribewoman, wearing a dress of animal print similar to the cavegirl but wearing a necklace and armbands.
-Harem dancer.
-Pirate captain.
-Mountain climber with rope, pickaxe and backpack.
-business woman with glasses, cellphone and briefcase.
-Hockey player.
-school girl in school uniform.
-gladiatrix.
-Indian warrior with warpaint, bow and spear.
-Shipwrecked pirate in torn clothes with ragged pirate flag and a sword.
-bee keeper.

Well, after the preview, I can't play the guess game  :-X

But if they ever come up with a sadistic coward bull torturer (I'm being polite)... There are no words in entish, elvish or any language of men to classify that.

After having seen Elaine's Scottish bagpipers, I would love Playmobil to release something like that (as I don't have the talent to make one myself!)

I like the beekeeper suggestion. I needed one for a project, tried to use the fencing mask instead, but ended up abandoning it.

A rocker with a bass rather than a guitar. (Don't get me started on the missed opportunity with the new rock band theme!  :'( )

Sherlock Holmes, with pipe and magnifying glass.

Hockey player. I need adult ice skates and they are apparently hard to find!

Great suggestions Rhalius.  I'm with you Salamander on the rocker with a bass.  A glaring omission in the rock band line up. I really wish the rockers were a bit more edgy.  All the new rockers are way too "American Idol" "One Directionish"  for me.  I want a grisly looking dude with tattoos, not Justin Bieber.
I'll also second your business wowan Rhalius.  Nearly all of the modern females have that "mom" look to them.  I'd like to see some more professional, business-oriented looking females.
I would also like to see a Mexican Luchador wrestler figure.

Great suggestions!

I'd like to see:
a female knight (aka Joan of Arc)
male Scottish bagpiper in red plaid kilt - with Scottish terrier
female Irish step dancer
Victorian butler (the Victorian servants are nearly all female)
Victorian footman
medieval monk (not fat) with quill
woman in a colorful African dress with a hat - ex: http://africanwedding.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/wpid537-Guest-african-wedding-dresses-27964.jpg
18th French woman with high powdered wig, beauty mark, and full skirt (not wearing pink!!!) with opera glasses and a fan
a b&w pierrot (old style, not too clownish)
a Korean women in traditional dress - any sort of figures in traditional costumes would be welcome, as I'm putting together an international collection
a flapper girl
1940's male aviator - white scarf, brown leather jacket, aviator goggles, hat
a Romani woman
a man in a kimono - or really an Asian guy that isn't a samurai, ninja or rapper
a man in 19th century riding costume
a Swiss guard

ALL the suggestions on this page are FAR better than what the mystery figures have been for the upcoming series which have been revealed yet we can not talk about...

Especially with relation to the boy figures.

Indeed these suggestions sound far better than Playmobils a few there which catch my attention the Beekeeper I immediately thought brilliant idea, Dwarf smithie and Gladiator both great to add variety to those themes.

Frankenstein such a brilliant classic idea it's hard to believe it hasn't been done before in fact I know monster sets have been discussed in other topics but, here's  an idea wouldn't a seperate monsters mystery series be a really good idea? loads of potential monsters to cast in Playmobil and the potential to mix them up and create your own monster would surely really appeal to kids.

There's so many ideas which would be great done in Playmobil hard to pick just a few, the Sailor with singal flags makes me think of the first issue Action Man basic sailor in his Navy blues and bellbottoms who you could buy additional flags for including a set with yellow and red signal and a lifejacket that's the first thing I think of when I saw that, speaking of which best not mention the school girl suggestion to the guys at Botanics would definately get them excited with their dirty minds enough said  :-[ ::) :P  >:D

The boys have been largely disappointing. I wish they had more multicultural and historical figures.

Great suggestions so far everyone. I would add:

1. A Jester - I never got the Special version, so it could be cool to have another.
2. A Knight - without crazy colours or overzealous printing.

And not that I like the figures that are based on other franchises or real people, but if they are going to continue this trend - and it looks like they are - I think these could come with some useful parts or be used in other ways:

1. Flynn Rider / Eugene Fitzherbert - The hair on the recent Rapunzel wasn't all that great, but if they released a character in clothing similar to Eugene's, at least we'd have another non-warrior Medieval figure. Tangled wasn't really fully Medieval though, of course...
2. Elsa - She is a character in the new Disney film Frozen. They seem to like characters from Disney films for their princesses in the Fi?ures line, and she is one of a Norwegian sort of ancestry. I think this would be a cool figure.

Here's a few more ideas.

Men:
-Father time
-Grim Reaper
-Heracles (including lion pelt, club and shield.)
-Medieval adventurer with sword and torch.
-celtic warrior in bare chest with blue warpaint
-Old librarian with glasses, an open book he can carry in his hand, and a candle.
-Spartan hoplite
-waiter
-Charlie Chaplin

Women:
-Mother nature
-Athena
-Cowgirl
-roman/greek noblewoman
-Asian mother with asian baby
-Flute player

That one looks more like an executioner. I'm guessing Rhalius meant a figure with a black cloak and a scythe.

I would've taken you up on that jester if I hadn't just made a big Playmobil order. Hopefully he'll find a good home.

I thought it was an undead scarecrow or one made out of a skeleton. It has a floppy hat and a yellow scythe too. That skeleton Special with the black hood looks more like a Grim Reaper than that Fi?ure, but neither look that great.

Great ideas!

The old lady needs some yarn too!

I'm sure the pirate collectors could use more crew members, and I haven't seen any dark-skinned pirates, which is strange because that would be historically appropriate.

I would totally love a dueling gentleman!

I can see where you guys are coming from re some suggestions for female klickies, but id like more historically accurate things, for a change. The odd female pirate klicky is ok, but cant we have, for the sake of historical accuracy, some pirate-era nose-powdering, heat-fainting, bonnet-wearing women? Same goes for she-gladiators, cowgirls etc.

There were female pirates, gladiators and cowgirls. Playmobil has a severe lack of period commoners and civilians in general. It's not really a gendered thing. There's knights and princesses, but no medieval farmers and tradesmen. We have pirates and sailors but no civilians; In that era, men powdered their noses and fainted also.
A few of the suggestions I made in this thread (e.g. the female knight and the male fairy) are inspired by (non-modern) literature. My other suggestions (female aviator, sultana, etc.) are historically based. I don't like pulling characters from nowhere, but I don't see anything wrong with representing exceptional historically-based characters. We could use some peasantry and tradespeople to fill out period scenes though.

Hmm, well I could see a female knight being passed off as a Jeanne d'Arc. That seems like it would fit the styling of the Fi?ures line.

Some more suggestions from me:

1) Tribal Warrior - I'd like to see some more with big carved wooden masks. Those are cool.
2) Crusader - This would fit and be popular for sure; it could be a different order than the Templars or Teutonic Knights for a change.
3) Demon Knight - This one could have the horned helm from the red demon knight Special Plus in another moulded colour scheme. Maybe blue and black or silver and black or something.

And, again, not that I particularly like any figures that are based on franchises or real people, but I've always thought it would be cool to make some customs based on Avatar: The Last Airbender. A Tibetan monk or some heavy fur-coated folk (like the older ones with the igloos) could provide nice parts for these. ;D And some hooked swords like Jet uses would be great and could fit into the new Asian Dragonland theme probably... I'm not sure if any of you have ever watched the show.

Granted. But we did get a number of female pirates etc in the past didnt we? Having more smacks of historical revisionism, I think. Sure there were female aviators, outlaws and so on, but come on, it was a very small minority. I just wish that reality were reflected more, is all  :)

Kings were an even smaller minority, and we get dozens of them.  ;)

I don't think we need to have a higher percentage of female pirate figures than there are now. They've covered that. (Actually, I just want them to make gypsies... I don't collect pirates.)

The female outlaw and cowgirl figures aren't distinctively outlaws or cowgirls. We just call them that because of the sets they are in. They could pass as housewives, if you prefer. They're open to interpretation. And really, if someone were going to round up cows, she would wear pants because side-saddle just doesn't work for ranching duties.

As far as I know, there have been no early aviator figures of either gender. [On a historical note, during WWII women pilots flew military aircraft on non-combat flights.]

I don't see the point in gay klickies. Most gay people look like everyone else.

Good points, Ismene.

Kings were an even smaller minority, and we get dozens of them.  ;)

This is interesting. I wonder what the real numbers have been throughout history. There were a lot of kings (particularly in areas with many small kingdoms of course), but I'm sure there were a lot of female pirates during the age of sailing ships also.

Regardless, I wouldn't mind more female characters in these roles, even if some of them could be considered more fantasy-like or rarities in respect to historical trends. :D

yes gays, lesbians and trans gender people are humans, so yes they look like other humans. Its how the sets are sold. If a set was sold with 2 well dressed and groomed males holding hands  I am sure customers would get the point. If they are dimwitted then yes throw in a rainbow flag to drive the point home. Then some butch looking females in pants, a short hair doo, with a kid should get the point across. The Trany would be really interesting though. One for the most inappropriate toy according to religious groups but could get a lot of support from alternative lifestyle types.

I still would like to see more religious cults represented. Geobra has beaten the Christian horse to death but there are so many more that could/would teach kids about the larger world.

I do think we have more than enough kings and queens. Oh, and cooks.   ???

I see no point in "gay" klickys - we've had those since.... I have no idea since when.

I wish they'd stop "religious sets". Or if they do a cult, at least do them all. Not the same one, over and over and over and over... (at least they renamed the "animal ark", and hopefully stopped including the leaflet  :0 )

We could use variety in the figures. The fencing guy was in the "olympic sets" not that long ago. The roman is another repeat, me thinks. Meh.

I find it interesting that you feel that Geobra would listen to your 10 year old and not to the financing behind the purchase. Us collectors are the parents/adults who put up the hard earned money to buy the premium toys.  I know I am seen as the blister on the foot but hell, I send my share of money to Geobras coffers. I will keep persisting on getting what we (my kids and I) want out of playmobil.

Well my contribution was made with some irony, but Geobra representatives do keep on telling us their target market is children. And children do have their own purchasing power and their own views on what they want to buy. My daughter would gladly spend £10 on a small set if it matched her aspirations and (with some exceptions), my wife and I respect our children's choices over how they spend their money (yes, which we give them).
I too wish Geobra would listen more to adult collectors, or even to parents.  In any case we can dream! I don't think the shelves will be full of animal klickies any time soon- don't panic Tahra!

That would be a bit difficult for a mystery F?gure...

The Trany would be really interesting though.
I'm not quite sure how you'd pull that off clearly, since drag queens and male transvestites generally pad up top. They'd just look like women klickies with lots of make up. We already have klickies like that...

Geobra has beaten the Christian horse to death but there are so many more that could/would teach kids about the larger world.
Christian sets sell, so Geobra makes them. You'd be hard-pressed to find another religion that is more interested in playing with toys of religious figures. A rabbi and a Tibetan monk would make interesting F?gures though.

I'd say that a clicky's sexual orientation would be very much up for grabs. I dont think any statement needs to be made here at all. Clickies can be however you want them to be.

That said, the medieval tower herald in his pink shirt, lime green pants and with his curly blonde hair and curly blonde beard seems very feminine and I have always implied for him to be gay. Even as kids we considered that clicky to be gay. But he was treated as an equal, he was no outsider. He just was quite enthusiastic about his job as a herald.

Just leave it up to the kids. If kids have gay parents or know someone with gay parents, chances are they might form a gay couple amongst their clickies. Personly I grew up with no such thing in my enviroment. The only gay people I saw where on tv, hence this herald I had was inspired by the kind of stereotype gay men you'd see on tv in movies and even cartoons at the time.

The problem with humanity, in general, is that evey age thinks it is much more enlightened than it really is. The victorians thought they were very enlightened, for eg, and see how they went about enlightening the aborigines in australia ...

Who knows how future generations will judge our attitudes, in 200 years time ...

Oh yes! (see attached image)

Good point!
If you haven't already, you should read Matthew Kneale's English Passengers for a superb (and very funny, at times) insight into that very subject. :)

we use those klickies as the queens eunuchs, and no it was not their choice. To create one our blue hooded executioner is given a side job.

Poor clickies, looks like my pink shirted herald found a better home then.  ;) Worst thing that happened to him was fainting twice in a single story at the very notion of danger.
I gues he is a bit of a stereotype, but considering how he looks and his position as a herald its just a perfect fit. Very much a castle servant who doesnt get his hands dirty and mostly is busy writing messages, poetry, redecorating, planning festivities, giving advice to the noble ladies, and more such things.

I'd like to see more of the ethnic figures as well.

A nice older couple

Teenagers!  You have the children and then you have the adults but nothing between (other than the disastrous look of the skate park figures) the dwarf body could even be used for this one.

I do also like the idea posted of a Victorian Era Butler (really I'd love to see Playmobil expand the Victorian line as it is fairly compatible with already popular Knights and Pirate lines).

I agree there is a lack of "civilians" for any of the historical periods that Playmobil has done.  They did the Roman Arena, but gave us no citizens to sit in the seats.  No civilians to stroll through our castles, few settlers for our Western Towns (though this has probably been the easiest to adapt other figures for), no citizens to be plundered by Pirates...

I'm growing tired of Pirate Captains, and Knights, and Kings... Give us the true armies, the real men who worked the ships, civilians!

A few suggestions of my own.

-A THIN monk with black or brown tonsured hair.
-A hoplite warrior.
-A Druid.
-A painted Pictish warrior.
-A REALISTIC looking musketeer.
-A Landsknecht soldier.

I'd be buying... :)

I would like to see fat kids and women. We have had fat men for a while but have we ever seen a fat woman or kid? A fat kid would be so great for the US market. Also why is it that the men get so discriminated? Why not make an unshaven woman who looks like she just rolled out of bed and is all unkept looking similar to the unshaven horribly dressed men with grime on their face. How about hairy legs for a woman klicky becouse a hairy faced woman is a bit transgender-ish.

I don't want to see klicky leg hair. Just no.

I would be happy if the guys cleaned up a bit as well.

An ancient Egyptian female figure who is NOT Cleopatra!

Also I second the idea of a Roman noblewoman, and in general more (especially female) civilians from historical periods.

They could be really dirty in ragged clothes, similar to the marooned pirates only in classic brown/grey wardrobe. The hairy legs would work too  the fat part would not seeing if you were a peasant you probably were skinny from lack of food.

Wasnt there already a Nobel roman family?

Let's see.. heres some more ideas.

guys:

-Detective in trenchcoat. (new legs mold to simulate the trenchcoat.)
-40's gangster. (including violin case with tommy gun.)
-Ice Hockey keeper. (including infamous classic hockeymask.)
-Lumberjack with chainsaw and axe. Wears typical lumberjack outfit.
-Generic medieval herald. Not tied to a specific faction, a herald in fancy clothing with a horn and a written scroll.
-Squire. Dressed somewhat similar to the highlander but without a kilt, he carries a bag on his back that holds several weapons. Carries some items on his belt too.
-Redcoat drummer. Redcoat soldier with tricone, has crossed belts over his torso which a drum can be hooked into. Includes drumsticks of course. He can walk and drum.
-Dervish. middle eastern styled warrior with a cloth wrap around his head that covers his mouth too, has two short swords.
-Adventurer. Practicly an Indiana Jones figure including a whip, a torch and a handgun.

women:

-Medieval woman with baby. No princess, just a common woman.
-Tavern wench. A bit like the woman that comes with the alpine lodge, but more medieval and carrying two mugs of ale.
-Medieval blacksmith. Rolled up sleeves, dark apron, long skirt and has an anvil and hammer. Based on the "knight's tale" movie, it has a girl blacksmith.
-Spanish/italian noblewoman. Slightly tanned woman with black hair in a red dress.
-Alien. Why should all aliens be guys?
-Black pirate. Don't think playmobil ever released black pirate women.
-Astronaut.
-Mage with long red hair dressed in a red/white outfit, carrying a staff with a green ball on top. (inspired by the codex character of Felicia Day. She's awesome.)

Yes, the Roman family is really nice, but there is still a lack of Roman women I think...

Might raise some eyebrows if it resembled the Monty Python version!  ::)

A college graduate, with mortarboard (graduation cap) and Diploma

-- I'd give him a beard and make him a medieval teacher or lawyer!

Speaking of which, a classical style judge with little hammer, black robe and wig would be awesome too.

They produced one of these, although without an axe.  He was relegated to DS by 1997 when I bought one.

'fraid not.  I seem to remember that he had a small motorbike and trailer with him.  He also had a large, black moustache, very 1970s.  I still have the figure and it's one of the few where I know where to find it, so I'll find him over the weekend and post a photo of him.

I'm sure I bought him through DS and he didn't have the motorbike and trailer.

Here he is.  His transport has been upgraded to a jeep and he also has a red trailer to go with it.

As you can see, his visor is unique to him and is quite different from other visors for the fireifighters, police and motorcyclists, as it gives full face protection against flying splinters etc.

He looks great good that they gave him a full face visor and plenty of accesories, I also like the fallen tree with part of the bark shaved off, personally though I always liked the look of the Lumberjack from the special:

http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/4515.htm

Obviously a smaller set so not as heavy on accessories but, I really like the outfit and the little flask very fitting for a lumberjack.

playmofire, thanks for the pictures of the lumberjack. I just received a DS order last week that included what I thought was a chainsaw. I was showing it to my husband who told me that no, I hadn't ordered a chainsaw, but instead a hedge trimmer! He was explaining to me the difference in the way the blade was facing, but it only really sank in when I saw your pictures!  :-[

So my own lumberjack is apparently woefully ill-equipped for the job!

Maybe he's just learning the trade and starting with hedges and working up!   ;D

PM me your address and I'll seed you a chainsaw; I have a number of spares.
