Title: Hello from Frankfurt !
Post by: MikeW on June 18, 2013, 08:46:50
Hello everyone,

My name is Mike, and I'm English but living near Frankfurt, Germany ! To cut a long story short, my first son is now 33 years old, so we were heavily in Playmobil in the early 1980's. Since then he has grown up, and life moved on......until a couple of years ago when, to our surprise, my partner became pregnant. We now have a lively son who is 30 months.
For many years I had a simple LGB Xmas Train that just ran around the Xmas tree. It has the Playmobil Santa with the four reindeer, plus a few other Playmobil figues. Last year I added a little bit more so that my son, who was just two at the time, could control the train. I also added a stop/go red/green light.
However, for this coming Xmas I've decided to 'go big'. I'll still have the train, but I want to create a sort of, 'Alte Stadt' (Old City) Xmas Market, using half-timbered buildings in the shadow of an old castle. It is meant to be modern, but based in an old part of the city....and of course, based on Playmobil stuff.
This has led me to become pretty active on E-Bay :-)

So without further ado, I'll start to join-in on some of the threads if you don't mind :-)

Hi MikeW, looking forward to the Alte Stadt you're describing, sounds like a very cool project.
And living in Germany, you're close to the source anyway  :)

Welcome from Antwerp, Belgium!

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Daniel, I haven't received any e-mails.....

Salamander - Yep, it is amazing, and was totally unexpected

I'll have to start a thread and post some pictures of what I've got so far, and the price I paid, then maybe the true experts amongst you can tell me if I've had any bargains or not

After not even looking at Playmobil for so long, I was surprised at the detail that has gone into the development over the years. I was even unaware of System-X ! I've got my views on System-X, but I'd better not reveal them yet as I don't want you regulars to start beating the newbie around the head  ;D

Hello and welcome among us, from Paris, France. Once you're in, you're doomed. You should have a look a kenc and skywalker's posts where they show their medieval cities. And at Giorginetto's city of Krull, but I'm warning you: that is madness!  :D

Welcome from Oregon!
A number of us do holiday displays using Steck castles, be sure to look back in the dioramas forum history. The secondary market in Germany should be pretty good so you should be able to find some decent deals. Much harder over here with so much less of the stuff about.

Welcome from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Lots of pictures of lovely dioramas over here! I don't have much of the 'big stuff', mostly klickies and horses, trees and rocks. All usefull for my comic (see the link in my signature)
hope you like it here!
