Title: customized 4310 new plane
Post by: socrates on February 03, 2007, 17:13:54
Hi folks...

It took me a really long time, but finally I managed to realize a custom that I already have in mind since a long time.

The new plane has not - as the old ones - a storage compartment in the end of the plane, so there is a large unused space...
...so here is my suggestion of how to use it. :)

First, I put out the last cabin wall, which is sealing the empty compartment and drilled two holes, one for a 9V-block holder and one for a small switch.
(I drilled a little gap for cables, but did not use it after all...  ;) )

...well, maybe I should tell you, what I am planning to do in the first place...?
 ::)

The idea is to install a illuminated film on the ceiling of the plane and get a glowing in the inside. Just like you can see the inside lights of a real plane at night...

I got the idea a while ago when I saw these films in a electronic online store...
But to use it in the plane, you need battery power and consequently a switch as well.. :yup:

to be honest, I am not very professional in setting up electric circuits, but the set comes boxed already with all connectors to an inverter for 12V power supply.
(search at : http://www.reichelt.de (http://www.reichelt.de) for "Leuchtband"...)

It runs very well under 9V - at least till now... - and I just had to fix it on the planes ceiling...

So, this is how the result looks like...

...well, you might want to see, how it looks like if I turn on the lights...  ;D

finally, some more impressions...

I can just motivate everybody to try using these films...
The only drawback is, that it is quite expensive...
But it is fun and the complete installation took me about 2 hours...  :D

best,
socrates

Hi Socrates,

Well done.  The cabin lights look like the real thing!

The back bulkhead also looks authentic, as the switch replicates emergency equipment that is stowed back there.

Good stuff!!

This is pretty cool!  :D

Socrates, can you please tell me the exact name of this "illuminate film" in German please, so I can search on the site you named. This little item might come quite hande for several purposes (e.g. illumination of Little Jo's workshop, etc.)

Hi all! Happy that you like my little custom...
@tiermann: Yeah, it feels good to finally get one of the ideas going...  8-)

@Jochen: The description is simply "Leuchtband"...
http://www.reichelt.de/?GROUP=A537;GROUPID=3033;ARTICLE=60195;START=0;SORT=artnr;OFFSET=16 (http://www.reichelt.de/?GROUP=A537;GROUPID=3033;ARTICLE=60195;START=0;SORT=artnr;OFFSET=16)
...but you might even be interested to look for "Leuchtfolien... They are intended to be used for architects and such to illuminated from below the desk and seem to be perfectly usable for illuminating our playworlds...  :D
Oh, and dont forget to order all switches and usb-cables and similiar stuff with the same order as they have really cool prices... :)
