Hello PlaymoFriends from Knoxville, Tennessee! My name is Kate. I have been following along with the forums for a few months and am finally getting around to coming forward and saying "Hi."
My first Playmobil were the construction men with the pipes and then the cowboys & indians sometime in the early 80's. Pirates soon began to raid our house and then knights arrived bringing their lovely steck castles. Our home now is full of people who love playmobil both young and 'more mature' (3 and 0.2 young children, my sweet mother, and my way to indulgent husband ;)). So, our interests bring many themes to life throughout every corner of the house and under carpets.
My favorite themes lean toward historical, fairytale, knights, whimsical, and anything you can make a story out of. Our collection is nice, but there could always be more. There could also always be more space to play.
I have playmodreams both big and small. I look forward to the Alpine usa release because it reminds me of our nearby mountains and Gatlinburg. I would also love to one day make a playmobil model of Knoxville's Sunsphere which was the site of the 1982 World's Fair. To scale, it would be 10 ft tall! Creating buildings from the real world and the fantastical would also be a lot of fun one day.
For now, I'm enjoying learning so much from all of you and experiencing the fun everyone has through your fantastic photos and hope to have a pinch of sanity here and there to contribute.

Hi Kate,
Your idea of making part of the world fair sounds great. We went to the 86 fair in Canada and I would love to make something from there, like the great highway. My sons and I look forward to your creations and contribution to this forum. As far as sanity and this place is concerned, we are a bunch of nutty collectors who play with toys, doesn't get any better :P
welcome to the group from California

Thank you all for the incredibly warm wishes! Very nice since our Spring break here began with a lot of snow. I forgot to add animals/zoo to my list, but like many, I think I could just go on adding all of the wonderful sets I like. I think for many of us Playmobil gives us a way to live out dreams that we may not get to experience or maybe just not as often as we’d like. These characters can do so many fun things.
There is a lot I’d love to do with them and my memory is aweful with such a busy home that sometimes just writing my plans down is as good as it gets. Thinking about all the materials available can be an adventure too: to use wood, or should I take a welding class, keeping little fingers away from damage, the dread of visiting my dad to ‘bond’ in his workroom, or just buy my own tools, should it be to scale exactly, or just a good representation like the pyramid. One day, one day ;) so many things to have fun thinking about.
I hope to play around with my collection soon and see if I can show a few of my first playmobil.

A late-but warm!-welcome from Belgium, Kate!!! :)

Welcome from your nearby neighbor in Morristown! Too bad we don't have a lot of choices around here to find Playmobil :(
-
Thank you! Oh wow, you are so close. I was feeling kind of isolated here. We need more playmobil places! Thank goodness for TRU but I miss the days when Target carried them. We have a great store in town that has Series 3, but last time I went they only had 1 which I was going to buy until I found out it was open :(. It was Lady Liberty too! In hindsight, I should have just bought it and called ds for the missing parts but I had 3 crazy children and a frowning husband on my hands .

Was that store Smart Toys???? That's the only other place I know of that carried Playmobil in Knoxville, and unless they moved I think we have lost them :(

Welcome from Gelderland the Netherlands

Thank you, Jack!
And yes, it's Smart Toys! Nice store, but gotta look for deals there haha.

I went to West Town this weekend and they are no longer there :(
-
I didn't know there was one in West Town? There used to be one on N. Broadway within walking distance to me but it closed years ago. There is the original Smart Toys a little further west on Kingston pike though ;) next to the Chop House.

Hmmmmm. I didn't know that! I will have to head that way and check it out!

They usually have a whole wall for playmobil, but last time it was all over the store in different places too. They often have the little bagged sets too. I have a really hard time there getting out without killing my wallet.

How far down is it?
-
Went there today. Franklin Square I think down near Cedar Bluff. They still don't have any Series packages :(
