My Love affair with Playmobil started as a kid but because it has always been a premium toy (always will be to me) our simple family never had the budget for it. In fact, we hardly had any budget for toys and most of my toys then were salvaged from trawling the beach for what other kids leave behind.
Somehow, there haven't been much Playmobil presence during my formative years growing up on our little island...
As a grownup I revisited my passion for Playmobil when I was in Japan in 2000 where I bought quite a few Playmobil Specials where they finally became mass marketed locally in 2005 or 6. Slowly but surely my "warriors" collection grew.
That fire burnt most brightly since joining Instagram two years ago and seeing how simple yet endearing Playmobil looked in photos especially those put up by @iloveplaymo. In fact, getting to know her on a personal basis somehow proved to be a great motivation where I started experimenting Playmobil photography of my own.
I also do some customization but currently I am only using original parts and as little re-color as I can (because I am lazy...).
While all my Friends swarm towards Lego, which I also grew up with, I stay rooted in the Playmobil camp simply because they looked so much better.
Although I sometimes do secretly wish for a Star Wars line, I am kinda glad that Playmobil stayed true to their culture and the spirit of toy-making throughout all these years.
I am quite sure MOST of the parts we need to custom the characters from our favorite movies are already made available to us, we just probably haven't realized it yet...

Hello Everyone,

Hi from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Nice to have a new member from your part of the world. I collect mainly warriors too, the ancient and exotic warriors are my favourite. You might like my fantasy comic, posted on this board "The Story of Randolph". You can see what's possible with an old labtop (backgrounds), t shirts (for surfaces), a few trees, rocks and klickies and a little photoshop. You can click on the links in my signature below; part four is in the story- telling board.

Hello Frank,
It is not sold at any major department store and Toys R us stopped selling them a while ago too. They are only available in specialty toy stores only. It is Lego frenzy over here and all my friends are in the Lego camp.
But asthetically, Playmobil appeals to me more.
