Title: Hello from Québec, Canada
Post by: Félix on January 18, 2013, 03:15:14
Hi everyone,

My brother and I played Playmobils during all our childhood. I must admit it was actually about 50 / 50 with Legos, but now that Lego has taken a very "different" approach to marketing, Playmobil remains as the undisputed leader of quality toys, in my opinion anyway.

As we grew older, we really enjoyed setting up dioramas of all kinds under the Christmas Tree instead of the usual Nativity (the walking of the plank was a favorite, and the Pirates the usual suspects). I always remained a big fan, but over the years I ended up keeping only my Western sets in the basement. Now that I have a 2 years old daughter, I have an excuse to start my collection again.  She really likes her construction crew, and calls them "les gars" (the boys), but what she really loves now is her 3 playmo dogs and playmo cat.  I'm curious to see how this will evolve...

So here I am.

 Hello Felix!  A warm welcome from Pennsylvania.  Glad to hear you are able to share your interest in Playmobil with your daughter.  Does she like the 123 series animals too?
Joe

Actually, I didn't even bother with the 123 series... I went straight to the real thing. Ok, so maybe it wasn't entirely just for her ;D

But she does play with them - it's even one of her favorite toys, which, of course, makes me very proud. Now, obviously, I don't give her all the smaller parts yet, but she gets the klickys, vehicles, the bigger animals (i.e. no squirrels and such) and some of the bigger accessories.  And then when she grows up a bit she gets some more parts, and it's Christmas again for a few days, and so on.

Welcome from the Netherlands! I also have a two year old daughter and she calls them "poppetjes" (little puppets).
We have a few 123 figures but my daughter likes the "real stuff" better. I hope you have fun here!

Welcome from the Netherlands!  :)

Me and my sister also played a lot with playmobil during childhood, and it was difficult letting it go when growing up. We kept browsing the folders when new ones arrived, and occasionly we still bought something small every few years.

Eventually I figured it better to get involved once more with the toy that gave me so much joy during my childhood, and I never had any regrets about it. Ever since I got back into it, I've been feeling more positive in general. Working with friendly clickies on a story, diorama or just a funny picture is always a great way to get back into a good mood when you are feeling down.  ;)
