Title: Our Train Empire expands outdoors
Post by: Rasputin on January 05, 2013, 01:00:59
So we have totally run out of room in every building we have playmobil and I have wanted to build an outdoor Garden Railway. I am planning on a much more elaborate set up at the farm but for now we decided to use up the land we have in the yard at the city house. In the one picture you can see the back fence opened up, it leads to the kids school.

Here is what it looked like before we evicted the natives and began

Hi,

looks like a good place for a garden railway, but there is still some work to do before the first train will run......

What are your plans for the underground ?  Concrete, stone, wood, ......?

Regards

Well we did not take any pictures of us running out the natives, its probably better there is no evidence but here is what has happened so far.

Well you can see how we were able to get most of the main line laid out. We carved in a few roads and everyone has laid claim to parcels. Public roadways have been established but are in poor condition. Some homesteads have popped up and people are developing their lands. Looks like sports cars are not the choice transportation but do not fret if your ride does get stuck as a new tow company has joined this land.

Here you can see how realestate has been demanded by the railroad authority to establish a freight yard w/wearhouses.

Here you can view the most ambitious of the RR authorities projects. This bridge project will span the are seen as pea gravel but we will imagine it as our cool blue ocean. The bride will be a suspension bridge, be one train wide and be constructed out of stecks. The citizens of the town have already voiced their desire to see an automobile bridge 2 cars wide also span this bay inlet.

Here you can see the trains triangle. The track to the right goes to the peninsula and the track to the left goes back to the main line loop. You may also notice the hazards the moving trucks are experiencing on the poor quality roads.

and here is looking up the main line and you can see the trains biggest enemy this time of year, giant leaves.

I was thinking about this for about a year and then one day I just dumped out the track and the boys and I laid it out and had it running in a few hours. It took us a few more to lay roads and houses. We will keep expanding it into our new play area.

The line runs great and I particularly like the elevation differences we have even in what looks like a flat yard. I am planning a few tunnels and more of everything else.

We decided to add our RC cars and trucks to our new land. The roads we built suit the RC cars perfectly and its quite fun to drive them around. Now its time to find all the power units and motorblocks.

While the RC cars are going about we also have the train running.

It was time to break out a present to ourselves and see her power. It is the glorious 4052 in very nice condition. She set our railroad authorities finaces back a bit but seeing the rarity of it these days it was time to bit the bullet and get one. What a fine toy it is indeed. It is the 3666 or 5300 of the train theme. I had the track pretty well cleaned up and had a nice light train of 3 cars test run after a brief track cleaning. I brought out all the TM train cars I had around the city house and loaded that train up. At first she could not pull all 10 cars up the grade but I quickly added a pushing motor for added power. It did the trick just fine and now she was running the loop perfectly.

Soon I just had to switch the transformer to high and she went barreling down the tracks. She crested the hill came down the incline and with all the weight of the cars with the rear motor pushing even harder the beauty was now flying at full speed...

She flew down that hill so fast  that the weight pushed her right off the tracks.
What a wreck.

the engine and tender were pushed completely off the rails.

Cars even snapped off the coupling hooks. It was a very exciting crash.

Well I guess we found her limits  :P

Your railway is great, Ras, and shows just what can be achieved outdoors without too much levelling etc. Look forward to following future developments and you and the lads adventures on it.

That's a superb example of a 4052 you have.

Well the show caused me to have to take all the track out of the yard and use it.  Having the opportunity to do some cleaning the kids and I took the rakes, buckets and shovels out to clean up. We raked up all the leaves and are going to use them for land fill. Now some of our construction company has arrived on the newly cleared land and they are redesigning the whole city. Here is the start

It looks like they are hard at work. Do you have any of those RC modules on any of your trucks, Rasputin?

I have not yet put any on the dump truck or the cement mixer. Our RC units are on 2 fire trucks, rally truck, mini van, semi truck and we have a pile more to install on other things. Its really fun to drive around a diorama  :P

Cool. :) So I take it you like the RC modules then? I don't think they've ever been reviewed on here. I was wondering because I considered buying one with some sort of truck eventually. They seem to be on sale at many places now.
