Title: DJ Playmobil
Post by: Little Jo on December 28, 2006, 17:50:00
This was my very first "commissioned work". A student from iceland found my Web site (http://www.jr-x.de/) and wrote to my guestbook, looking for a Playmobil DJ. Her boyfriend is DJ and she wanted to make him a Playmobil DJ figure for a gift. She correctly assumed - already searching several days the net - that Playmobil hadn't released no DJ figure, so she asked if it would be possible to provide a figure or at least a photo so that it can be printed to a T-shirt. She had a concrete image in mind about the DJ board, two turntables and some headphones (she provided some photos of the board, the turntables and even one of her boyfriend, so that I could design a corresponding figure).

I was flattered being asked and really loved the idea of this female student looking for a very special gift for her darling. I also was wondering if I can customize something suitable so it was also a personal challenge for myself. Due to her noble idea and because it was Christmas time and because the raw material didn't cost me more than 1 EUR I decided to make  her this favour for free.

So here is the result.

p.s.: Before somebody "complains", that this idea isn't new: I know, that in the past already some people customized some DJs -- I can remember that I've seen one in Wolfsburg this year and in the video of "Playmo hips don't lie" there can be seen another one too. Nevertheless I want to share my own interpretation because this has been mainly influenced from another (not that Playmobil enthusiastic [I assume ...]) person.

... and the last one.

p.s.: The LP covers are not arbitrary; she provided me some favourite LP covers of her boyfriend, so here is another relationship beneath the abstract "look&feel" of his DJ board and his liking of striped T-shirts/polo shirts.

That lady's boyfriend sure is one lucky guy to receive such a unique set for Christmas! 8-)

She must have been thrilled with the result too. :yup:

It's just too perfect for words, Jochen.

That's marvellous, Jochen, and the young lady who commissioned you must be delighted, as well as her boyfriend.  The attention to detail with the record sleeves and turntables is incredible, as well as the work done on customising the figure.

I expect you will now find other "commissioners" contacting you.

PS: On your point about there having been DJ customs in the past, this doesn't matter as not only is yours different but when someone creates a custom they may do so without knowing of similar customs created already.  The fact that there is already a custom DJ or a particular custom of a fire engine, say, doesn't mean that other people who do similar customs have copied them.  They may not have known of them or may have been inspired by them.

That's great Jochen. It seems you have all the details put in place. The colors are excellent too.

God job.  :wow:

Incredible, Jochen ...

Absolutely, INCREDIBLE !!!

Your Playmobil DJ is probably one of the best custom sets that I have ever seen !!!

Your attention to detail is fantastic !!!

I would not be surprised if Zirndorf copies your DJ for a future Playmobil set ... ;)

Thank you for sharing your beautiful custom.

Season's Greetings and all the best,
Richard

Thank you all for your very nice comments.

I expect you will now find other "commissioners" contacting you.

Well, although this would be something that flatters me, I think I wouldn't have the time for this  :-[ And if this would become a duty I think I would lose interest soon  :-\

I totally agree with you Gordon. But in the past I already made some experience that somebody said, that this had already been realized by somebody else, so I just want to take precautions against, because in this case I actually know that's been made before ...

Fantastic!
You must be raving through the clubs to get all those details.  ;D

Also reminds me of the time we were trying to give a DJ lesson:
