Title: How rare is the Schooner 3055/3740?
Post by: spiked_spiegel on November 02, 2012, 13:33:21
Someone locally is selling their old Playmobil items (see link below) which includes the Schooner.   I have asked if I could buy it on it's own with the figures but of course he wants to sell the whole lot.  He said he'd sell it all for $150 with the condition that the figures for the schooner are there.  I don't know if I should buy it or wait to try and get it off eBay?  How much would it go for on eBay?  Would it be worth the $150 and all of the items or should I wait and try and get it off eBay for say $100?  It would be easy to sell the other vehicles?
Please let me know, it's also going to be a gift for my son for Christmas.

Great present for you son!

I'd say it's a bit much for the schooner alone, though I'm no expert. I guess you need a bit of luck with these things as well.

If you are after the schooner for a target price of $100 then look at it this way,

green plane $10 (i would keep this one)
fire truck   $15
helicopter   $10
Car             $5
Boat            $5

Pile of parts $25 or more if you sold them individually

IF you decided to sell the extras your boat is in the $80 range and it would be hard to find it on Ebay for that price if it had all the parts and rare klickies. Even if it gets re-released chances are that it will not have the rare klickies, and I have seen them sell for $15 each. make sure the special colored sails, masts and clips are all there. Oh and the sailors hats and bands

$150 sounds high but if you sold off the extras you are getting a decent deal. I would offer $120 cash in hand

Be careful of saying "Never" I have found ones on auction quite cheep. It usually has to do with poor descriptions combined with even worse pictures. Then I have bought Misc lots that the boat was not even mentioned  ;) Deals are out there all the time, you just have to look and be patient

If you want it for Christmas now is a better time to buy as prices seem to keep climbing. Summer is a very good time to buy as prices seem to be very low but time is not on your side right now.

The only thing that could go wrong is that it gets re-released in the same color scheme and the klickies are included. It would then sell for around $60-ish if you compared it to other schooners today.

Thanks for everyone's help.  I'm going to buy it as long as the klickies, their accessiories (mainly just hats) and some of the rarer ship pieces are present.   The seller knows this too so if they are not there the deals off.  I'm going to inspect it in about 2 hours.  Rasputin I agree I'm keeping the biplane too!

Fingers crossed for you!  The white schooner is one of my favourite boats - box/figures make it, but if you're not a box person, I hope they have the proper figures for you  :crossed:  I'm sure you won't regret buying it - it's gorgeous :D

If the schooner is in supercondition with nothing lacking or damaged, I would go for that price (150 USD = ca. 117 euro)...
Remember, if the ship ever gets re-released it will be... pink  ;D

Success!  The seller lives very close to where I work so I left early.   He was not home yet however his mother was.  She brought out the box and it was huge!  The admiral, colonist and one sailor were right on top.  Before I even went to inspect it for more the mother took out the schooner and said it should all be there with the instructions.  As her son was complusive about his toys and shouldn't have lost any pieces (or not many).  I took her word and bought it!  All the klickies were there complete with hats w/bands, and even the admiral's feather!   There was a ton of other little prizes like a jazz band (3723), hockey player (4513), Arctic Expedition (3464) and it seems all the vehicles in the add have all their klickies and pieces too.  I'm going to list the sets but I'm beat and it'll take awhile.  I'm just happy to have the schooner.  I'm going to build it right away and hide it for Christmas.  I'll take photos of the whole thing and post later as I still don't know how to re-size images.
Thanks everyone for the help.
