I've noticed on the official Belgian and Dutch websites that the big sets 5134 Pirates Adventure Island and 4865 Knights Lion Castle aren't mentioned anymore in the themes Pirates and Knights respectively...
I also couldn't find theme anywhere else on the site, only by typing the setnumbers in the searchfunction I could still get to see them.
From experience, I'm convinced it means these 2 large (and very nice imho) sets will soon be discontinued. :'(
Geobra normally starts the discontinuation-process with the Benelux-countries, then follows Germany and last the exportmarket-countries.
I'll ask later today on the PCC if they want to confirm or deny my suspicion...
On the German website there is a reasonable discount on both sets.
Maybe these sets are too big & expensive in this economical climate and are therefore due for discontinuation... :-\

I wonder if that means a new castle is being prepared. :)

Really hoping on a new batch of medieval myself. Hopefully with civilian sets. :)

One can dream...

I really do hope you're right! :)

A new castle and a new island, maybe, but it would be rather soon;
the knights' castle was introduced in 2010 ( 2011 for exportmarkets) and the Treasure Island only in 2011 (this year for exportmarkets)... ::)
If themes would now get renewed every 2 years, who could keep up 8}
Trend usually is that after a year or 2, sets that don't sell too well get deleted from a theme. I suspect this will be the case here...
-
The Lion and Falcon castles didn't fit well with the older System X castles though. The stonework was a cool change, but the rock parts and angled pieces look like they would hard to merge with other castle designs.

Just picked up a catalog from a little toy shop yesterday and in it they show the 5134 Pirate Adventure Island listed as NEW 08/2012, and also the 4865 Lion Knight's Castle. Not sure if that helps or not.

Playmobil answered on the PCC that they cannot confirm discontinuation of both sets, and that the sets disappeared due to a technical glitch and will be put back on the belgian/dutch official webstores soon...
:)

I have a feeling that form now on, playmobil will begin discontinuing their sets much more often than they used to... I mean, some themes are vanishing within a couple of years... :-\

I think you are right Panos.
I expected a second batch of prehistorical sets, but not in 2013 it seems :(
-
Too early to say for sure on that, we've only seen the first half of the year. I would think there will be at least a year gap between prehistoric. The current/new ones are the third so far in nine years, so averaging every three.

but didn't the 2nd top agents followed the 1st one the year after they came out.... or there was one year gap?
-
poorly selling themes and large sets were always discontinued quickly. Nothing changed :hmm: I am not sure if it is due to not selling or Geobra making smaller amounts and them running out quicker? We have had things disappear in the US with in weeks of being put on sale 8} but I suspect trickery was at play ;)

To be honest, that pirate island looks nice but its use is limited compared to other pirate islands that where more of a hide out for the pirates. And it does take up a lot of space.
Castles are always good sellers I assume, but the smaller castle probably a bit more due to the price.
-
Yes it's noce but can pretty much only be used for pirates, and only one particular pirate scenario at that. The old pirate island could be used for anything you could possibly imagine.... from ancient themes all the way up to modern themes. I like that kind of versatility over a definite built-in story.
-
Probably good then that the island is not selling that great then, since thats how lego sets seem to work quite often. Just single scenario things, a single scene from a movie rather often.
-
Yes, it would be great, if they started to get the idea this sort of thing doesn't sell well. Better to go with more versatile pieces, especially for enormous baseplates.
-
The 5134 island could also be used in a modern treasure-hunting setting, or one from the era of the Aztec/Inca/Maya/...
