Well, I've finally loaded my photos of the Beachtown and Seaport Coastal Railway layout at this year's Kirkbean Playmobil exhibition up to photobucket. Although the theme was the same as for this year's Knaresborough display (here's a link to it: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10598.0), the actual layout was quite different, mainly because Diane came to Kirkbean with me and so the front passenger seat wasn't available for Playmobil, plus there was less space in the boot as we were staying at Kirkbean for three nights.
So to start with, four overall views of the layout.
First of all, two from the Seaport end:
And now two showing the Beachtown end:
The dividing boards down the middle representing hills are to give the impression of distance between the two towns and, I thought worked quite well. Originally, I had planned to have the hills at the sides straddle the track with a hole cut through to represent a tunnel, but this was too complicated on space and rather fragile for travelling. (It is nearly 200 miles from where we live to Kirkbean.)

Some detail now of Seaport.
As a seaport, it has a harbour so we'll start with that showing the pier/breakwater with the goods siding on it. (Diane is helping the young boy with the "find the frogs" competition!):
A later view of the harbour with a steam fishing boat alongside the harbour wall (Elaine's Sinter Klaass boat) and a couple of trucks on the siding waiting to be picked up by the evening goods train:
A close-up of one of the local fishing boats unloading its catch:
And finally, a bot pf recreational sailing in the harbour:

Now a look at Seaport station.
As can be seen from the queues at the ticket office, it's a busy railway station, especially with people wanting to travel to Beachtown further down the coast with its excellent beach:
The station building is a custom using part of the old Steck railway station.
The platform's crowded with passengers waiting for the next train:
Beachtown is a popular resort for religious conferences where people can go and meditate and study. Here a nun and an Orthodox priest are in conversation while waiting for the train:
The are also offers coastal walks (in fact, the walk along the cliffs from Seaport to Beachtown is one of the most spectacular coastal walks in the country)and at the other end of the platform a couple of walkers are also waiting for the train, obviously intending to walk from Beachtown to Seaport:
-
Away from the platform, passengers from an earlier train (the service is very frequent) are heading for their final destination.
Some are going by bus:
Others by taxi:
While a courting couple are meeting up again (they haven't seen each other since last February at the Knaresborough exhibition!):
Lastly, a view of the newsagents, which is part of the station building and offers a wide selection of newspapers, magazines and books for travellers:
-
Now a look at the Seaport goods yard.
As you'd expect, fish is a main freight item and the main fishing business has a large warehouse and processing store in the goods yard:
Here's a general view of the yard:
And a detail of the local bakery van loading up with raw materials:
The station cat is always popular:
-
I'm off for my supper now so I'll call it a day and post more photos tomorrow.
-
This is wonderful, Gordon. I wouldn't change anything it is just perfect! This was my favorite picture:
-
Great photos Gordon, I love the painter with the half painted door

-
This is a wonderful diorama, Gordon! It looks great, thanks for the pics.

Thank you for your kind comments folks, and I'll start with some more photos before I go out to the garage to continue unpacking from Kirkbean.
First, a look at the town of Seaport with a shot from the goods yard looking along the High Street. The station is the building on the right with the clock, while on the left, beyond the warehouse is a house and a terrace of cottages. The Seaport & Beachtown Fire Brigade is on it's way to an incident.
Now looking in the opposite direction, with the school crossing patrol holding back a couple of schoolchildren who have come in by train while the fire engine goes by:
The local post office is being kept busy with letters being delivered:
and letters being posted:
And, finally, in our look around Seaport, the reason for the fire brigade turning out - someone's been a bit careless with their car maintenance (maybe they forgot to disconnect the battery before starting work on the engine!):

Right, let's head for the beach!
Beachtown station is only small, really little more than a platform:
and a 'phonebox:
But, of course, people don't come for the railway station, they come for the beach:
The west end of the beach has a cafe:
and a telescope viewing point, always popular with the children:
At the east end, there is a small pier and landing stage for rowing boats:
And young romance can blossom:
while a seagull takes a snack:
-
But the beach itself is the big attraction -
to teenagers:
youngsters:
families:
and for sports:
-
Here are some more beach shots -
the lone sunbather:
the mischievous children:
the young yachtswoman:
the sand castle builders:
those well-prepared for the weather:
the donkey rides:
and the lifeboat:

More wonderful pictures, Gordon! I love the way you have captured the interaction between the Klickies and their environment. The solo sunbather with her Agatha Christie mystery is super . . . that is the perfect way to spend a day at the beach!

I really love the car engind on fire! Very nice effect there. And the young romance was a very cute detail. I liked all the seagulls everywhere, too. Wonderful beach scene, with so many details!
-
Thank you, Joe and Bonnie. Last scenes coming up now.
Beachtown has a long history and one project under way is the restoration of an old coastal defensive tower:
For the seafood fans, Beachtown has probably the best seafood stall on the coast.
With supplies fresh from the Seaport Fish Company:
Fred and Maisie have stopped there for a break while out with their dog:
Who is picking a fight with a local seagull:

Cycling is a popular pastime:
And it brings out the best in the younger generation:
Of course, you can't go to the seaside without having an ice-cream:

But not everyone was having a fun day. Back at Seaport, there were urgent track repairs needed on the pier siding:
And to finish with, a video of the layout:

This was a wonderful way to visit the exhibit, Gordon. I saw so many different items that I had no idea existed! 8} So this has been instructive as well as enjoyable! I have never seen the cinder blocks used by the men restoring the old coastal defensive tower before. They are really neat and I agree with Bonnie, I love seeing all the seagulls. Thanks so much Gordon.

"In cod we trust"

WOW, what a wonderful diorama you crated Gordon. I really enjoyed looking at it all, wish I could see it in person.
-
Wonderful diorama, Gordon!!!
-
Thanks for the pics the of the Kirkbean exhibition, Gordon
(btw, is Spockadder the nextby town? ;D)
I had expected a large railway-display from you, I had no idea place was rather limited. Nevertheless you've put together a very nice display!
While a courting couple are meeting up again (they haven't seen each other since last February at the Knaresborough exhibition!):
-
Amazing diorama with great scenes and details. Great pictures too.
George. :)
-
Many wonderfull little details going on.
I like the clicky burried under the sand at the beach (although those children seem to be standing with other adults some pictures earlier, did they just bury a sleeping stranger under the sand? )
And is it just me or does it look like theres something going on between the red haired mailwoman and the fellow receiving the letter? Or maybe shes just bringing good news. ;)

Many thanks, Erwin. But no Spockadder I'm afraid! :)
Elaine offered me a larger area, but space in the car was the limiting factor as regards the size of the layout. The exhibition at Knaresborough earlier this year (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10598.0) was much nearer to home (50 miles with the rear window largely blocked is one thing, nearly 200 quite another) and so I could load the car up much more, plus as Diane stayed at home on that occasion I had more room in the car for stuff.
The actual area for the train was 8ft by 8ft and there was about 40ft of track all told. One of the problems with a railway layout is whether it's a railway or a diorama with the railway as just part of it, and in the end I went for the latter.

There are an awful lot of twins in the Playmobil world! :)

Maybe the answer is "Yes" to both questions!
-
Let's hope those parents leave the beach with the right kids then. ;)
-
Wonderful stuff Gordon! Lots of great detail work there, a very busy setting
-
Great pictures of an even greater diorama. Will be coming back often to this thread to look at the pics.
