Title: Very unconventionnel use of Playmobil in Dutch newspaper
Post by: Lynx on July 29, 2012, 13:59:16
Hi there! Yesterday, when the newspaper arrived I found in the weekend special a very funny, Playmobil- related article.

First, I have to explain: next week is in Amsterdam the annual Gay Pride; hundreds of boats in the Amsterdam canals with gay people on it. It is one of the biggest parties of the year (after Queens Day) in Amsterdam. Lots of people from all of the country come to the city to watch it.

The writers of this article wants to show to all the people who are not familiair with the gay- scene which 'types' of gays and lesbians there are, and have used customized Klickies to illustrate what they mean. Hilarious!
I hope nobody is offended by this pics, the gay people I know that have read this article thought this was very funny.

That is a very unconventional use; I wonder who made the customs!

Without your background information and explanation this would have been much stranger though, haha, so thanks for that! :lol: Also, I don't understand why hipster is on there, but then again, I don't know much about this subject. 8}

People may be afraid to comment for fear of offending someone.
I certainly have criticism for it, they should have used the proper bald head rather than leaving hair off, and the leather guy should have a hat like 30 63 5590 - Cap, peaked, uniform (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2063%205590) anyway.
And the Fashionista should really look more like Uncle Karl (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=9270.msg169308#msg169308)  ;D

Some of them wouldn't be considered 'types' here I think, some cultural differences there between the US and the Netherlands/Europe.

I like it a lot! Is PLAYMOBIL ready for a gay klicky couple?

Hey, yeah, why doesn't the "bear" have hair?  He should have a shaggy do or bald head.  Anyway, interesting use of playmobil for sure! ;D

I have filed a lawsuit for putting a female klicky's hair on the pirate-figure in the 1st picture. There never were gay pirates! The gay guys all joined the Redcoats  ;D

Edit: Gaymobil & Lesgo;  variations from the well known manufacturers for specific customers

I'm just joking around again, no offensive intentions!

We've had gay couples for DECADES. There just weren't enough women, so.... Female couples were a more recent thing (well, probably around 93 or so, because of characters of a TV show)...

So, no real news there  ;D

But those guys in the article... PLEASE put the hairs right! Tiermann is right!

That is hilarious! Luv it!
Might come as a surprise to most of you, but I'm heterosexually-challenged :0 (Like you couldn't tell from my cartoons ).
I'm so totally not offended by this, in fact, I'd love to get a copy of that! As far as stereotypes, they exist because they exist.
And as long as people are smart enough to know that that's all they are, there shouldn't be any drama.
ps: I think the names of the characters are incredibly funny!

OMG Tim!
I can't believe people still remember Uncle Karl. It's been almost a year! LOL
And as he would say: "Of couuuurrrse I'm a fashionishta DAHling!"

People may be afraid to comment for fear of offending someone.

Thanks for your reactions, folks! Your Uncl Karl is indeed a brilliant fashionista, EmGee! And it's a shame they didn't use bald/ bandaged hair pieces for the Bear and the 'Leernicht' (liturally translated: Leather Niece; a 'nicht' (niece) is a word that's used in Holland for a gay.
In the article the makers told that they had so much fun making it and there was not enough space to show them all, unfortunately the 'Drag Queen' didn't make it. (I wonder how he'd looke like). I also learned a lot of new words. For instance: a more tiny built Bear is called an Otter.
I think some of the makers are incroud in the scene.
@ playmo1989 and Birdie: Yes, it is way funnier and to typecast something/ someone you don't need a real face... I can't come up with another brand of toys which has so much possibilities to customize as Playmobil. And the innocence of a toy can hardly insult someone, it's more cute than offensive, in my opinion.
@Rasputin:  I've heard you before on other topics about the colour use of Playmobil (and your not being content with it) Your remark made me laugh!

@Emgee: I can send you the original paper if you like.

but I'm heterosexually-challenged

Loved that expression!

I wonder if Playmobil has anything to say about this use of the toy, or if the newspaper had to ask for some permition to publish the pics.  ???

In the Netherlands homosexuality is quite accepted, making jokes about it is nothing weird here either.  :)

I'd worry more about parades giving homosexuals a bad image since its all rather over the top.

As for gay playmobil figures, they where already released in the 90's.

Behold exibit A:

The herald with the ruffled pink shirt and curly blonde beard always struck me as being blatantly homosexual, and even as kids me and my sister played him like he was rather effeminate and was often reciting poetry, talking with the ladies of the court about the decorations and their clothes and overall being rather flamboyant.
But even that clicky has always been very much accepted by the others, he only made some male clickies a bit uncomfortable with his compliments.  ;)

I thought they we geobras version of the eunuch.

Around our part of the US if you do not accept alternative lifestyles you are not going to go far. I would say 1/2 of my clients are living unconventionally and they are better clients, very apprecative, generous and kind.
