Title: Hogsmeade Village from Knaresborough Exhibition
Post by: skypurr on February 24, 2012, 22:49:21
Hogsmeade is the wizarding village close to Hogwarts Castle and its station is where the Hogwarts Express terminates.

According to wikipedia  "Hogsmeade primarily consists of a single thoroughfare, called High Street, on which most shops and other magical venues reside; however, unnamed alleyways branching off from the main road are also home to such historic places as the Hogs Head Inn and Madame Puddifoot's Teashop..."
For this display I wasn't able to put in the little alleyways, but tried to put the Hogs Head and Madame Puddifoot's away from the other shops and houses.
The village is also described as mainly having architecture of a medieval origin, so the timber framed houses fitted the bill.

Because of the type of windows in the houses there was little point in putting much inside the buildings so where possible I tried to reflect the type of shop it was by putting things outside or in the attic space where they could be seen.

The signs for the shops etc. presented a problem as printing them out on the computer just didn't look right.  I got around this by using peel-off letters of various types that I use for my cardmaking, to give the name of the building.

Here is the village and the buildings in it ...

The Three Broomsticks - the landlady is the very attractive Madam Rosmerta ...

The Owl Post Office...

Zonko's Joke Shop..

Gladrags - Wizarding Wear - Trying to put the tiny letters that read "London, Paris and Hogsmeade" on the sign, took ages!  I thought the well dressed Dracula klicky looked the type of customer the shop would have   ;D ...

Dervish and Banges - Wizarding supplies...

Honeydukes Sweet Shop - strictly speaking the storeroom is in the cellar, but a bit of artistic licence moved it to the attic! ...

Scrivenshaft's Quills ...

The Shrieking Shack - reputed to be the most haunted building in Britain...

Sandy made the base and small rocky mound that it stands on and Lyn and Steve, (Damo's mum and dad) made a great job of painting it for me,
I was so pleased with it that I plan to make a similar although higher base for the pathway between Hogwarts and Hogsmeade for the Kirkbean display.

The Hogs Head - the bar man is fond of goats!  Strange characters often frequent the Hogs Head so I thought these two would fit in well...

I'm afraid that a boar was harmed in the making of this, but for a good cause!

Madam Puddifoot's tea rooms - I'm not keen on the blue surround of the window but didn't want to paint it, so I'm on the look out for an alternative...

Damo made a terrace of houses for the village near the farm on the railway and seaside display but there was no room for it so it fitted in well in Hogsmeade.

Finally Hogsmeade Station with the Hogwarts Express...

You did a fantastic job customizing the train engine.  It's easy to tell it is a stock playmobil engine, but the gold trim and the red and black boiler really look nice together.   I always thought the red passenger coaches would make a great hogwarts train.

Well with Honeydukes perhaps the cellar is upstairs? it is magic after all.
Great seeing the different buildings.
For the window, maybe something using the open wall from the safari buiilding?

Elaine you should state that this is from this year's Knaresborough Exhibition, unless you did and did not notice it  :-[
This year's Hogsmeade is much more elaborate than your last year Kirkbean Hogsmeade. More detailed stores and houses, much more to see and all the signs on the buildings is an excellent touch!!! Very well done!!!

Thank you for these pics!!!

I think I counted 21 different owls, but I'm sure I missed some that were hiding. ;)

Thank you for your lovely comments.
No Panos, I don't think I did state that it was 2012,  :-[ but did say it was Knaresborough, rather than Kirkbean.

I love the owls on the nest too  until George mentioned the nest a couple of weeks ago I hadn't thought of using mine in this display.

Not all the owls can be seen in Hogsmeade, some are in Hogwarts, but I think I worked out that if I had to buy them all new from ds I would have £58 worth of owls  :-[  which seems a bit silly  8}
For some reason white ones cost 50p more than brown ones!

Thank you Justindo,  I've tried where possible to follow the descriptions in the books but added my own interpretation too.  It was great fun to do.

:love:Really great set-up, Elaine. The details are wonderful and you've got all of the characters represented well. I've always wanted to do a "Harry Potter" set-up with Playmobil. Looks fun.

thanks so much for the pictures!!
