I don't remember we ever discussed this matter. We all have our land, its name, rulers and history, but we keep referring to the world as the "kingdoms map".
So I think it would be great to have a name for our new WORLD.
I open this thread to receive suggestions and then we can discuss and choose the name together.
What do you all think? what should be our world's name?
:elf:
-
Oh, what a great idea!!! It definitely needs a name!
I would suggest something connected to the word "playmobil." Like, Playmobia or the letters rearranged someway like Plombylia (though plombylia is already a city name I have used, not in connection with this project).
-
I'd see no harm in using Hans Beck's name in it either, although I wouldnt see how to dedicate a country name to the good man.
-

It would be the name for the WORLD, not a country. <*)
I also thought about Hans Beck.... something like Hansland, Beckland, Hansania....
-
I think it might be a good idea to put forward any suggestions and then a vote for the name ;D . BTW i dont think hans beck would be soundwise nice, we can always dedicate this world to him but the name in my opinion always ) should be something catchy i reckon that people can refer to for years ...
My suggestion would be to use infront of that name the ' The World of ' ...
... and my nomination would be ....
The World of Nibiru
Nibiru, is the name ancient Babylonians gave to a heavenly body associated with their chief deity, Marduk. According to ancient Sumerian tablets, it also referred to a mysterious Planet X - at that time undiscovered.
-
How about hansbeckistan? :P Kidding!
I like the idea of it incorporating hans beck. Could do a rearranging of letters there, like, Beshnack, Bachsnek, Kneshboc, Kensbach.... lots of possibilities with those letters.
-
World of Hans
World of Beck
Land of the lost (cause we have all lost our mind)
Plearth lol
-
 Plearth is funny!
-
what about Playmo- planet ? ;D ;D
i think my previous suggestion Nibiru sounds like a bad name for detergent or something so i think its best i withdraw that proposal - god what was i thinking... sumerians etc i suppose ...
-
It just sounds a bit Star Wars to me. DOn't get me wrong, I do love Star Wars. Just not for this. Some of mine sound crazy, too... I was posting before I had coffee again. :-[ They certainly don't all need to be put in the final poll! Maybe only suggestions that have been seconded should go in the poll? In which case I second Hansania.
-

i think thatsa great idea . Hansania sounds a bit like Tazmania and HAns is a very popular name i udenrtsand in Germany , most people wont know it refers to Mr Beck .... if you ask me ... ??? ??? - i would still suggest we dedicate this world to Hans Beck but find a more catchy name ( personal opinion of course ) . i would still suggest Playmo planet as its catchy and people will relate to playmobil immediately . just my 5p thoughts on this ... 0)
-
Hansania has vague associations to me of the Hanseatic League. That makes perfect sense under the circumstances. It sounds a bit too much like a country name to me though.
Generally I think people that live there would just call it the world, since that's what it is.
I think rather than giving it a planetary type name it would make more sense with the period to call it something like 'The Lands of ?" We may in time need to expand the map to make more territory available as well.
-
What about klickywelt .... ;D (kidding of course)
I thing playmoplanet is a nice one it has an alliteration in it so it sounds good.
-
I think we should think of it as a WORLD... not a PLANET. I hope there is the same difference than in spanish for those words.
-
There is a difference in these words, but in my opinion they're interchangeble.
Playmoplanet sounds good, playmoworld.. Hmmm
I have no further idead for a name at the moment.
-
I agree there's a difference. I don't think we've come across the right name yet... let's hear some more suggestions.
-
I also think we need to decide if this is on a different planet or world /part of era at a different time etc .
-
i dont know the full story behind it, but i like Mike`s Kingdom :)
-
i dont know the full story behind it, but i like Mike`s Kingdom :)
even better ' The world before Krull conquered it all ' - only kidding btw !!!

I do not particapate (yet) in the Kingdom's Map but maybe I have some suggestions.
-I would not use the word 'planet', in medieval times they hardly knew what a planet was. The ancient Greek did (help me, my Greek friends, planetar means something like 'to roam' as the planets had no fixed places in the firmament like stars) but did not see them as something people could live
-Keep it as general as possible ( for instance, Middle- Earth as used in Lord of the Rings was brilliant), with no references to nowadays history
-Indeed nothing like "Empire" or "Kingdom" because this world is bigger than that.
-I like something with the word "Terra", for instance "Terra Nova", Playmoterra, Terra Plastica or maybe "Terrabeck"
I would love to participate and I'm sure my armies would easily crush all your armies, even when they join forces... ( ;)) but I have really lack of time and I want to finish my chess sets and the Randolph story first..
-
bb: Hansbeckistan is a hoot! I love it!
What about Playworld? (Because that is what we do here.)
Cheers, Pgal :cracker: :cracker: :cracker:

Very helpful! Love the suggestion of it having "terra" in it...Terra Plastica and Playmoterra are my favorites. Or Terra Playmo, or Terramobil.
-
I liked TERABECK (with one R) or The world of Terabeck,
And Hansania ;D
-
Or you could mush them together - Terra Hansania
-
I think I need to join this project, just so I can have a country called Hansbeckistan. :P
Why one R, Gaston?
-

Why one R, Gaston?
Well... in my spanish-english mind it sounds better with just one R... hard to explain actually. :-[
I like Terra Hansania too Tim.
-
(I'm not in the game either, but)
Here's a few Latin suggestions:
1
Playmobilia or Playmobilia Antiqua/Medievalis
2
Ludia (Land of Play) / Orbis Ludi (World ("orbis") of Play) or Orbis Ludiae (World of Ludia)
Magna Ludia (Great Ludia) / Ludia Vera (True Ludia)
Luditerra (Land of Play)
And why not
3
Medievalia
Another suggestion is to begin composing some history of the world. It might be named after one of the ancient gods ... Also useful to think about how Christianity (and other religions (...)) reached it there (if so, ... I say so because it reached my own "other" worlds). (I thought so because I can see characters with Crusader crosses ...)
Another idea is to place it somewhere. I particularly like the concept of Wall of Gaiman's Stardust. It could also be thought to have some relation with Atlantis (Tolkien's Akalabeth).
Then you could have
4
Medimaris, Oceanida, ...
Gus
:blackhair:
-
Well... in my spanish-english mind it sounds better with just one R... hard to explain actually. :-[
A little of topic but out of curiosity. Is the double r in argentina the same long rolling r as in spanish, that non-spanish speaking people cannot pronounce properly.
-

Oh, I understand what you mean. Different sound. It's the same sound either way in english, though.
-
By the way,
England in Portuguese is Inglaterra, in French, Anglaterre.
(Luditerra would Playland, in English ...)
Denmark in Portuguese is Dinamarca.
This place is a continent, right?
----[edit]----
It's cool to think the same name in many languages ...
I like Terra Hansania too Tim.
I guess the main god of the place would be an old Hans, then ... :P
Maybe the land's patriarch on another perspective ... It could be Hanisterra, Hansland, Handor ... Hansbeckia.
Some could have called it Hansingas/Haningas, the "Children of (the Old) Hans" ...
This is a funny play! .. giving names ;D love it!
-

Playmobilia or Playmobilia Antiqua/Medievalis
Nice one, but somehow I get an association with a machine.

4
Medimaris, Oceanida, ...
These are nice
or maybe Playmoceanide or Playmomaris
-
Nice one, but somehow I get an association with a machine.
That's true :P ... Maybe it should be composed of something else, like
Playmobiloria or Playmobiludia ... 8}
----[edit]----
-terra = -land, and -(n)dor in Tolkien's Elvish.
I like the root "Gond(o)-" (stone, rock) of Tolkien's Elvish ...
There could be a name like Playmogonduria, Playmogondolia
Playmogonduria Medoceanida (Mid-oceanide) sounds cool! 8} though it doens't actually mean what it says ... (Or vice-versa!)
-
I like the names with Terra in it.
Terra Plastica, Terramobil...etc :)
-
PLEARTH
-
A little of topic but out of curiosity. Is the double r in argentina the same long rolling r as in spanish, that non-spanish speaking people cannot pronounce properly.
yep! it's funny my friends from USA just can't do it! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
the doble r sounds like that and also the simple one when it is in the beggining of the word or after an N or an S in the middle of the word.... weird I know
-
Nobody likes Ludia :-[
It's my favourite! Maybe I'll use it, someday ;D lol!
Anyway, I guess it can be more than one name ... In theory, each kingdom in the world might name it one way, according to its own culture 8}
And, in time, a main name might appear.
Btw, the name it has, "Kingdom's Map", in Latin, would be Tabula Regni. It could be thought to be a Tabula Regnorum (Kingdoms' Map). Also, Kingdom's Map suggests Orbis Regni, or Regnorum.
-
i can't come up with names, i'm terrrible at that - plus i have no idea what your role game is all about :-[ :-[ :-[
however reading this thread is getting VERY interesting ;D 8-)
By the way,
England in Portuguese is Inglaterra, in French, Anglaterre.
In French it's Angleterre ;)
-
In French it's Angleterre ;)
Isn't it Anglaterre? :hmm:
Oh, look, no, it isn't!: :P http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angleterre
Cool! All these years I spelled it wrong!
---off_topic---
There's a girl here from England, trying to learn Portuguese, and she finds "triste" to be the most difficult word to say, because of the "r" after the "t" in Portuguese ... It's very funny (& interesting) to see her difficulty ... It's really difficult for her to say "triste". Instead of t-r-is, she says like ("ch" like that of church) ch-r*-is (and the "r" in English is like not exactly an actual "r", but a "wa", so it comes out like "chwis" ... It's really funny! ;D )
-
It also occurs to me World of Kingdoms from Tabula Regnorum ... It'd be Orbis Regnorum. It's kind of simple, but it says a little what it is, in a name more comprehensive than Kingdom's Map ... (Which, on the other hand, is a very interesting name in itself, in a way ...)
-

My brother used to be a language coach and help english speakers learn to make this sound, and spanish speakers to make english sounds, to perfect their accents.
-
I took French classes so I'm set in that departement.
...haven't taken any Spanish classes, though. Hey, something to work on!
Sorry, waaay off topic. :-[
-
a list of the second names would be good at this point i think... :)
-
Do we really need a name? Kingdom Map sounds good to me. Playmo World Map?

Okay ... I'll go on here: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10180.0

that would be like calling the Earth "The Human world map" ;D ;D
I think we do need a name for the world. the question is what name?
-
I agree. It needs a name.
-
Okay, well, my suggestion is TerraPlastica.
Maybe we should select a few names that have popped up a few times and put them in a poll so that people can vote.
-
we should give time to more people to find the thread and come up with some names... so far if we vote, each name will have 1 vote. ;D
there's no rush. :rudy:
-
I won't vote ... I'm not in this world :P
By the way, is this Orbis in contact with other words? ::)
-
Maybe I'm just the odd ball out here and I don't want to hurt any feelings or offend anyone here but most of the names here sound great if this was a space theme or future planet theme map. These names just don't fit in with a medieval theme in my opinion. I think we shouldn't change anything. Or as someone else suggested, "The Land of _______". Maybe the land of Kings. Or Realm of Kings.
-
This is more like my style ... But there's a lot of different "philosophies" here, and, in a way, I guess that the idea of this place is to give means of interaction ...
In my own thought (my "philosophy"), I don't call playmobil by playmobil. In my thought and way of writing, they are portrait of us.
Wonderland, though, is a "Land of Chess", and it works very well ... Wonderland might be called Ludia :)
@Elric When I mentioned communication between worlds, I thought like Tir Nan Og, Wonderland, Oz ... I agree that some ways of mentioning these things make confusion with futuristic stuff, which I dislike either in my medievals! So I like your remark very dearly.
-

I like the idea and the remark is oke, but where does it say it is an medieval map ???. I thought the idea was to have all kind of kingdoms, for those who don't have a lot of knights.
It should be here somewhere under this link link (rules of engagement) (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=7263.0)

from what i recall its bee agreed that this map/world is set at a medieval theme/era and so far all the interactions/ photostories have been based on that . i think mixing al shorts will be wrong, a pirate and/or modern era world can easily be set but for those who have worked already with stories etc etc it wouldnt be very fair in my humble opinion to turn it all round and introduced in this world all shorts of eras etc :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
-
I believe there is a time line range for your kingdom. I think its posted somewhere but I'm on my phone and can't search at the moment.

Well that's clear then and I agree with the fact that mixing up modern/pirate with the mostly medieval stories is not fair. Besides, I wouldn't like it. My point was however the fact that my kingdom is less advanced compared to the medieval period. You could say older. Would that fit in?
-

if i recall correctly thats fine and romans/ egyptians , cavemen i am sure non will object . we have previously agreed to keep gunpowder off and everything pre medieval is fine. just for hte record i have 150 gauls or so as part of the viking force ;D

I think that that's fine. Even in real history, some civilizations were not able to move out of the Dark Ages in to Medieval times and, as a result, were less advanced.
-
I don't have a problem with using the caveman theme on this map. I plan on using the cavemen in Melnibone once they are released here in the U.S.

that is a cool idea Sir !!!!

Eventhough the kingdoms will be place in the same world, each member will rule their land as they wish, meaning they’ll have as many races as they want, have magic or not etc, use the heraldry they need to use to match their collections, make it historically correct or not, etc.
That's a quote from the guidelines.
I think it is clear that "to each its own", right? I mean, to fit everyone's collection we decided that each one can do whatever they want with their land, though I think it would be better for everyone not to go to far away from the majority or the type of civilization the majority will use, becuase that person won't have much to interact with. You know what I mean? So medieval, vikings, romans, egiptians, gauls, fairies....etc. All that could be called a "kingdom" in real life or fantasy is fine.
BUT we could say that a "kingdom of policemen" wouldn't fit, though it is not forbidden, but a fantasy kingdom like that would stand (so far) alone and will have little possibilities of intertwine a story with the rest.
Another thing is we are not obliged to interact with EVERYONE. I hope that's clear too. So if some "historically correct kingdom" don't want to interact with a fairies kingdom, that's fine.
Please everyone re-read the guidelines :)
Let's go back to topic ;D
-
FYI
these are the last and current rules

Wow! ... That's very interesting.
It's somewhat cool. I'll even think about it more ... like, in a literary way. Not a simple concept, but I will give it a try. But sorry, this commentary is somewhat off-topic ::)
-
I am sorry I was away for this! ;D
I don't have much of an opinion in naming the world,
if you want to then be my guest, I'll vote and go along with whatever we decide.
I think Plearth is great, but if we do, let's shorten it to Plerth. :)
I love the idea of incorporating Hans Beck in to the name too,
It sounds very symbolic. :)
-
Hey another vote for Plearth! :)
-
I like Plearth/Plerth, too. It's simple and sounds realistic, but has a reference to playmobil rather than being completely pulled out of nowhere.
-
Plearth is simple yet very effective. My vote goes with Elric! :)
-
why not Playmo-earth ??? ??? ??? ???
-
why not Playmo-earth ??? ??? ??? ???
Everyone on the forum will understand that Plerth is really playmo earth. :)
-
What about Playrth then?
:)
-
What about Playrth then?
:)
I find that Plearth has a bit more of a ring to it.
Interesting, though. :)
-
Thought they sound similar I like Plearth more than Plerth.... this is too close to Perth the Australian city.... nothing against Perth actually 8} I just think it would be better if it sounds not that close.
That's why I came up with Playrth :-\
anyway....let's keep thinking... :)
-
Keep in mind what we write may sound different depending on the native language of the reader.
I don't know, Plearth or Plerth doesn't seem to read smoothly to me
-

I agree with Tim . I think Plearth or Plerth sound a bit weird and wont associate with what this is all about . I really think that Playmo earth or Playmobil Medieval World makes more sense and that ( in my opinion ) we shoudl choose a more sensible name as such . just my thoughts on this really :) :) :)
-
I think it could be really cumbersome to type out Playmobil Medeival World over and over again. Something short and simple is better, IMO.
-
Were TERRIS or BECKENSTERRE proposed already?
-
Why not... Gaiabra... you know, like Geobra, but change it to Gaia, as in Earth ;)
-
"World of Hansbeck".... just run it together as one word and his name sounds historical/fantasy like
-
Beckensterre is a good one.
-
Beckensterre is a good one.
Yes, I agree.
